Grounded in blues, soul, and gospel, the Kentucky native wields her gritty voice with personality and forceful presence, kind of Melissa Etheridge meets Sophie B. Hawkins with a splash of Jann Arden. French composer/conductor Paul Mauriat is a classically trained musician who decided to pursue a career in popular music. His first major success came in 1962, as a co-writer of the European hit "Chariot." In 1963, the song was given English lyrics, renamed "I Will Follow Him," and became a number one American hit for Little Peggy March. Mauriat is best remembered for his 1968 worldwide smash "Love Is Blue."

Tapestry is the second album by American singer-songwriter Carole King, released in 1971 on Ode Records and produced by Lou Adler. It received four Grammy Awards in 1972, including Album of the Year. The lead single from the album — "It's Too Late"/"I Feel the Earth Move" — spent five weeks at number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Easy Listening charts. In 2003, Tapestry was ranked number 36 on Rolling Stone list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

New jill swing was a cheeky response to the very male, late 80s world of new jack swing, and it was the dawn of a golden age for female R&B in the 90s. The original source of new jack swing - or swingbeat - could be found in key records such as Janet Jackson’s “Control”, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, which mixed hard beats with soul, real R&B with 808s and a tough shuffle. Producer Teddy Riley took these sounds a step further at the end of the 80s, blending them with hip- hop because - strange as it now seems – hip-hop in the 80s was barely integrated into R&B.

Following their massive 1986 European stadium tour for the A Kind of Magic album, Queen took an extended break. What I Did on My Vacation is an official compilation album from Ian Gillan, released in 1986 in UK by 10 Records. The album covers Gillan's recordings between 1977 and 1982 and was released in three formats (2LP, CD, MC). All songs from the album had been previously released. Although not credited on the cover, "Scarabus" is preceded by an instrumental piece by Colin Towns, which was used as the intro to "On The Rocks" (from the Glory Road album).

Atomic Opera were one such outfit playing music that, in a way, was out of this world, fusing the progressive elements of days gone by while charting a contemporary path to future glory. Led by talented frontman and guitarist Frank Hart, this enigmatic quartet were very much part of the spiritually inclined Houston cabal assembled by mogul, manager and producer Sam Taylor; a man who had discovered and nurtured Kings X to worldwide attention. Atomic Opera were, it must be said, cut from the very same musical cloth as Kings X, laying down a sound that was thick and boisterous but embedded with subtlety and intelligent arrangements. It was also a sound that fused the popular grunge movement with traditional hard rock styling.

Mamouna is the ninth solo album by the British singer Bryan Ferry, released on Virgin Records in September 1994. The album name refers to a city in Morocco called Mamouna and means 'safe' in arabic. It was Ferry's first album of original material in seven years and he spent six years writing and recording it, under the working title Horoscope. The album peaked at number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. The album features contributions former members of Ferry's band Roxy Music, including Brian Eno who left the band in 1973.

This is a criminally underrated album that seemed to disappear without trace at the time. I think this is mainly due to RCA not believing in them because hard rock albums were hard to come by in the late nineties and it’s amazing that their second album actually saw the light of day. Formed by Scott Gorham in ’90 after the death of Phil Lynott in ’86 it was obvious Scott still had a lot of music in him and needed a vehicle to do it. For me, this is the better of the two albums they put out and if it was released today it would be hailed as a classic.

Blonde on Blonde is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released in mid 1966, on Columbia Records. Blonde on Blonde completed the trilogy of rock albums that Dylan recorded in 1965 and 1966, starting with Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited. Critics often rank Blonde on Blonde as one of the greatest albums of all time. Combining the expertise of Nashville session musicians with a modernist literary sensibility, the album's songs have been described as operating on a grand scale musically, while featuring lyrics one critic called "a unique mixture of the visionary and the colloquial". It was one of the first double albums in rock music. The album peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart in the US, where it eventually was certified double platinum, and it reached number three in the UK. Blonde on Blonde spawned two singles that were top-twenty hits in the US: "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" and "I Want You". Two additional songs—"Just Like a Woman" and "Visions of Johanna"—have been named as among Dylan's greatest compositions and were featured in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

Stellar guitarist Scott Gorham (ex-Thin Lizzy) started in the mid-Eighties his own band project with the aim to the current melodic hard rock sound from that time. During his recording contribution to the Phenomena Project, Gorham met bass/keyboard player Leif Johansen and drummer Mike Sturgis (ex Far Corporation, Asia) and they joined: 21 GUNS born.
