Road Songs for Lovers is the twenty-fourth studio album by British singer-songwriter Chris Rea, released on 29 September 2017. Rea stated there was no initial intention to make a new album, but after a bad medical condition in 2016 he started to write new songs which eventually led to a band regroup, and first album release in six years. The songs were inspired by traveling on the road to London, seeing couples in cars and questioning the "people's love stories inside cars". According to Rea, most of the songs are about a boy-girl relationship in the car. He has stated that his favorite song is "Last Train", the lyrics of which are not about the typical meaning of the last train which goes home, but taking the last train in a desperate situation without knowing anything about its direction. More than 20 years after Captain Beefheart's last musical outing, the Magic Band (sans the Captain) reconvened for the 2003 All Tomorrow's Parties festival. Actually, it's a Magic Band that never was, consisting of Drumbo (John French) on drums, vocals, and harmonica; Rockette Morton (Mark Boston) on bass; and guitarists Mantis and Feelers Reebo (Gary Lucas and Denny Walley, respectively). (For the live shows, Robert Williams – another Magic Band alumnus – took over the drum chair when Drumbo had to sing and play harp.) Of course, these guys knew the material, but they don't just play the tunes, they attack them, summoning up the controlled chaos that made the original Captain Beefheart recordings such singular achievements.

Legendary American singer and pianist Leon Russell has entertained the world for five decades, getting his start as an in-demand Wrecking Crew session player and playing on hundreds of hit records before he began releasing his own albums in 1967. Leon Russell's latest studio album, titled Life Journey, will be released on April 1, 2014. This 12-track album features newly-written, original songs and Russell's turns on classics that resonate with the two-time GRAMMY® winner as important to his musical trajectory. The album is produced by Tommy LiPuma and executive produced by Elton John, with whom Russell most recently collaborated for 2010's critically acclaimed album, The Union.

Arriving just a little over a year after an eponymous live album, High Water I is not only positioned as the first official studio album from the Magpie Salute, but as the initial installment of a two-part album. It's an auspicious beginning for a group led by two Black Crowes guitarists, but the Crowes always showed some measure of ambition, slowly expanding that ambition along with their musical horizons. High Water I doesn't find the Magpie Salute stretching out so much as embracing everything that Rich Robinson and Marc Ford already considered theirs, anchoring themselves on a Southern-fried rock that allows them to indulge in flower-powered country-rock, crunchy blues, back-porch picking, even a bit of funk.

Joe Louis Walker can play guitar and that’s the truth. The Chicago-based blues singer has been a presence on that city’s music scene for decades now, releasing albums on an almost annual basis since the late 1980s. Alibums such as 1990’s Gift and 2003’s Between a Rock and the Blues reveal a musician with serious guitar chops as well as a gospel-tinged megaphone of a voice. Never a purist, Walker is unafraid to incorporate plenty of rock and roll and even a little funk into his arrangements. Hellfire is Walker’s first album for the blues standard-bearers over at Alligator Records, and the set is a knockout, showcasing a wide variety of approaches unified by his incendiary guitar throttling and those expressive, angst-ridden vocals.

There has been a huge outpouring of loving tributes to Bernie Marsden since he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on 24th August 2023 at the age of 72.
Although Bernie had always worked hard and kept busy, most recently releasing 3 chart busting solo albums since 2021 in KINGS, CHESS and TRIOS as part of his Inspirations series, only a few knew that he had just completed a brand new album. Earlier in August, Bernie had approved the artwork, sequence and audio masters for WORKING MAN. An album of Bernie Marsden original songs. The album contains 12 brand new Bernie Marsden penned tracks. Produced by Bernie Marsden and Mixed by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, The Who). The limited first pressing of the LP & CD will come with a bonus disc of 10 more new recordings. Joe Bonamassa said this of Bernie Marsden: "As a singer he'll kick your ass, as a player he'll kick your ass and as a songwriter he'll definitely kick your ass!"

Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam returned for it's 30th annual installment in December 2018. The charity event was held over two days at the U.S. Cellular Center in the guitarist's hometown of Asheville, North Carolina on December 7 and 8, 2018. Now, for the first time, it's being released on 4 different vinyl sets, 2CD+DVD and 3CD+2blu-ray. It features performances by Gov't Mule who presented a "Dark Side Of The Mule" tribute to Pink Floyd as well as Grace Potter, Jamey Johnson, Marco Benevento, and Mike Gordon. Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl also headlined one night for a set billed as "Dave Grohl And Friends Play 'Play'" in reference to his 23-minute instrumental. Gov't Mule, Eric Church, Jim James, and Joe Bonamassa round out the lineup alongside many more special guests. This new album is a solo project by Russell Morris and this is what he says in his own words about the album… "Jack Chrome is for me, a mythical dream like character. His dreams are different to you, and I — as he allows us to live thru, and experience them, from his point of view. They are in fact snippets of my own dreams - and flights of fancy through the mysterious Jack. From journeys, to mysterious book burning, and to secrets”. This new album is a highly creative album of songs and an exciting departure of sound from anything Russell has delivered in his career.

Bridge of Sighs is the second solo album by the English guitarist and songwriter Robin Trower. It was released in 1974. Bridge of Sighs, his second album after leaving Procol Harum, was a breakthrough album for Trower. Songs from this album, such as "Bridge of Sighs", "Too Rolling Stoned", "Day of the Eagle" and "Little Bit of Sympathy", have become live concert staples for Trower. The album was remastered and remixed in 1999 with bonus tracks recorded for KMET radio on 29 May 1974 at The Record Plant in Los Angeles, California.

Leon Russell's CD "Snapshot" comes unheralded. There are no musicians listed, no writers' credits for the songs. But the music has delightful gems. The double-entendre titled "Come for You" bounces joyfully with romantic bliss as the background singers, stinging electric guitar and Russell's growl-sing make the track shine. "Honey & Eli" is another of my favorites with Russell's signature piano – his fingers seem to bounce along the keyboards – and soul horns to create an intoxicating mix, "I see sweet love there in your eyes; true love cannot be denied." Another gem that should not be confused with the Hank Williams' classic by the same title is the religious but not preachy "I See the Light." Russell is in reflective mood here on the Almighty and the afterlife with a slower beat and his vocals soulful and passionate, "I see a place there in the distance now, a sweet delight, his precious love abounds, I hear his words and then I feel alright; I speak his name; I see the Light." The rest of the CD is a mix with some predictable melodies, but also some joyful surprises. "Lost Inside the Blues" is a strong track. The CD concludes with a Russell instrumental "Friendly Fire." "Snapshot" is a strong set, well worth exploration by fans of Russell and heartfelt roots music. Enjoy!

The former lead guitarist with the Nighthawks is an undisputed master of the 6-strings. This live set, recorded in Detroit, showcases his distinctive style as his axe roars and whispers blues-rock riffs through the night with characteristic gusto. Jimmy pumps an incredible amount of energy into his groove, keeping his audience floating on a flying carpet. This album is pure dynamite, handle with care!

While subtlety isn't exactly his strong suit – especially live – it's also not what Dave Hole fans expect out of their Australian slide guitar slinger. The word "ferocious" best describes his over-the-fret, over-the-top technique, and what was merely intense on his studio albums gets kicked up a few notches in concert. Like George Thorogood, Hound Dog Taylor, or Rory Gallagher (whose vocal phrasing is also an influence), he's nailed his niche, best described as explosive Elmore James. Hole happily plays to his strengths without pushing the boundaries past where his fans comfortably expect.

Two CD set. First-ever complete anthology of highly regarded early 70s American proto-power pop band Crabby Appleton. After the demise of Curt Boettcher's late 60s project The Millennium, gifted singer and songwriter Michael Fennelly joined forces with LA club band Stonehenge to form Crabby Appleton. Signed to Elektra, they made their debut with the glorious 'Go Back', a hit single that married a mid-60s pop sensibility with early 70s studio advances to stand as a proto-power pop classic. A slightly different mix of the track featured on their self-titled debut album, which attracted rave reviews from the underground press and sold reasonably well. But the band were unable to follow 'Go Back' with another hit single, and after second album 'Rotten To The Core!' made little impact, they disintegrated. The first-ever complete compilation of the band's work, 'Go Back: The Crabby Appleton Anthology' includes both albums and a raft of singles (including rare mono mixes and non- LP tracks) as well as two miniature tracks that were only included on the first album's 8- track release and are therefore making their first digital appearance. Featuring a new 5000 word essay on the band, and housed in a stylish digipak, 'Go Back' is the definite document of a fine group that deserve to be remembered as far more than one-hit wonders.

The Flood The Engine disc is a prime slice of vintage rock n' roll for your soul that is Highly recommended to fans of classic rock mojo.
