Rhino's 2001 collection, The Best of Bread, is the definitive single-disc collection of Bread's hits, spanning 20 tracks and all of the group's hits, including lesser-known hits that didn't reach the heights of "Make It with You," "Everything I Own," "If," or "Baby I'm a Want You." Though this isn't as comprehensive as Rhino's double-disc set – which means it doesn't contain the David Gates solo cuts that the first one does – it still provides most casual listeners with all the Bread they'd need, in a highly listenable fashion, too.

C.B. Busser’s 1978 solo debut Movies drenches its symphonic-meets-psych soundscapes in glorious Mellotron, conjuring the laid-back Teutonic grandeur of Schicke, Führs & Fröhling and Novalis, with jazzy, Camelesque detours along the way. A one-man tour de force on every instrument, it’s undercut only by uneven CSN style folk numbers and weaker vocal tracks, leaving a fine Swiss-prog gem that shines brightest in its atmospheric instrumentals.

Pondus's sole 1979 obscurity Myrornas Frammarsch is a virtuosic Swedish jazz/rock feast, threading Soft Machine "Bundles" fusion,Canterbury whimsy, Zappa quirk and Mahavishnu fire through knotty time signatures, flamenco guitar runs and lush piano-flute interludes. Only the occasional Swedish vocal track dents the momentum, leaving a forgotten but thoroughly recommended gem of light, virtuosic prog/fusion.

Solar Plexus's self titled debut is a sprawling double LP of groovy Swedish jazz rock, packed with heavy bass, electric piano, organ and active drumming that brings to mind the warm feel of early Lotus, with a few cheerful Swedish vocals adding to the mix. The playing is excellent across most of its run. Solar Plexus was a Swedish jazz fusion/prog group, formed in 1969 by husband and wife Carl-Axel Dominique and Monica Dominique together with Jojje Wadenius and Tommy Borgudd from Made In Sweden. They first called themselves Bäska droppar but later changed their name to Solar Plexus. When Wadenius went on to Blood, Sweat & Tears (1972–1975), he was replaced by Bosse Häggström. Tommy Körberg was also in the group for a time.

Electric Light Orchestra's more modest follow-up to Eldorado is a very solid album, if not as bold or unified. It was also their first recorded at Musicland in Munich, which became Jeff Lynne's preferred venue for cutting records. At the time, he was also generating songs at a breakneck pace and had perfected the majestic, quasi-Beatles-type style (sort of high-wattage Magical Mystery Tour) introduced two albums earlier. The sound is stripped down a bit on Face the Music, Louis Clark's orchestral contributions generally more subdued than on Eldorado, even when they compete with the band, as on "Strange Magic."

Two CD collection. When Purple Records was first set up in 1971, it was by no means a mere vanity label to release Deep Purple product, from Machine Head until the end of the decade; it also set out to nurture and discover raw talent too. The label would eventually become home to debut solo releases from Jon Lord, Roger Glover, David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, as well as early releases from Yvonne Elliman and Ronnie James Dio with Elf. One of their earliest signings was a hard rock band called Bullet, featuring guitarist John Du Cann and drummer Paul Hammond, both formerly of Atomic Rooster, having played on Death Walks Behind You (1970), and In The Hearing Of (1971).

This 1977 double-album opus represents Golden Earring's entry into the series of live albums that were so popular in the late '70s. At this point in its career, the band's live sound had a newfound sense of power, thanks to the addition of second guitarist Eelco Gelling. Indeed, classics like "Radar Love" and "She Flies on Strange Wings" benefit from a newfound complexity and energy that stems from the energetic guitar interplay between Gelling and George Kooymans. Golden Earring's new double-guitar sound also allows the group to overhaul some of its material in new and interesting ways. For instance, "To the Hilt" is transformed from the short country-flavored tune that appeared on its similarly titled studio album into a stomping, twin-guitar epic in the live arena.

Best known for his approximately five-year stint as Procol Harum's guitarist in the 1970s, Mick Grabham had previously played in the minor British late-'60s band Plastic Penny, also logging in time with the even more obscure Cochise and the Guitar Orchestra. He also made a little-noticed solo album in the early '70s. This CD reissues Mick Grabham's lone album (the year is unlisted in the liner notes, although it was in the early '70s), as well as four bonus tracks from a non-LP single and unreleased material from the same era. It's typical early-'70s rock with little to arrest the ear, and more of a California influence from the likes of the Eagles and CSN that the typical British effort of the time. The drowsiness only gets alleviated with a perky remake of the early-'60s Jet Harris hit "Diamonds" (one of the bonus tracks).
