    Trilogie #205886-349

The Very Best of Osibisa is a 3-CD set compilation bringing together three Osibisa's albums: Welcome Home, Ojah Awake and Africa We Go Go, released in 2001 by Trilogie under catalog #205886-349. Do not confuse with other compilations released under the same name, such as "The Very Best of Osibisa" released in 2009 by Golden Stool label. Osibisa is a Ghanaian-Caribbean Afro rock band founded in London in the late 1960s by four expatriate West African and three London-based Caribbean musicians. Osibisa was the most successful and longest lived of the African-heritage bands in London, alongside such contemporaries as Assagai, Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, Demon Fuzz, Black Velvet, and Noir, and was largely responsible for the establishment of world music and Afro-rock as a marketable genre. The original band that featured on the first three studio albums was universally known as the "Beautiful Seven", also a song on their album Woyaya.

2001 Dutch release with live recordings from the King Biscuit Flower Hour vaults. This 1983 Palladium show is a great place to start for anyone not turned on to Derringer's brand of music, though its circumstances were very unfortunate at the time. The gig was put together to raise money when all of the instruments and equipment belonging to Derringer and his band had been stolen, along with the van they were stored in that night, from a Greenwich Village side street. The guest artists include Lorna Luft (who put the show together), Dr. John, Edgar Winter, and Ian Hunter. The songs, played with reckless abandon, include a metal-crunching rendition of "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo," awith an extended guitar finale; a gloriously tight and bracing "Let Me In," a medley of "All the Young Dudes"/"Roll Away the Stone" featuring Ian Hunter, "Just Another Night" (also featuring Hunter), and "Right Place, Wrong Time" with Dr. John and Edgar Winter. And the set finishes with a mass singalong of "Hang On Sloopy," featuring everybody present. (Hall & Oates were at the show but don't appear here.)

Astra is the third studio album by British rock band Asia, released in late 1985. It was the final studio album to feature original member John Wetton until 2008's reunion album Phoenix. The recording of the album took place at several studios in London during 1984-85. It reached #67 in the US on the Billboard 200 chart and #68 in the UK Albums Chart. Strangely, although Astra itself didn't make the top 50, two songs charted well on the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, receiving radio airplay in various markets: "Go" (#7) and "Too Late" (#30), and the video of "Go" (based on the futuristic heroine on the album cover) received airplay on MTV. Allmusic critic Matt Collar gave Astra a three-star rating in a review full of praise. He called the album "a solid prog rock outing", "a truly underrated '80s rock album and a must-hear for fans".

This Montaigne disc (a 2001 reissue of 1990 recordings) contains string quartets by three contemporary composers in the post-Webernian tradition. In the spotlight is Gyorgy Kurtag, the Hungarian composer who famously bloomed late with a relatively small body of music, who contributes three pieces. The disc is filled out with the string quartet of Witold Lutoslawski and the second quartet of Sofia Gubaidulina. Kurtag's quartets are some of the finest of the 20th century, clearly fusing Webern and Bartok.

Roxy Music followed up their stunning debut with ‘For Your Pleasure’, an album that’s come to be regarded by many as the ultimate musical expression of Roxy Music’s early period. For this record the band found the freedom to develop the songs along experimental lines in the studio, resulting in an immensely satisfying musical statement. Added to Bryan Ferry’s alternately seductive and dystopian imagery, Eno’s other-worldly synth sounds and tape loop effects were propelled by the virtuoso musical powerhouse of Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson. Ultimately, the sum of these parts continues to earn ‘For Your Pleasure’ a place in many ‘Best Albums Of All Time’ listings and its music is as timeless and fresh today as first heard back in 1973.

Absolutely Free is the second album by American rock band the Mothers of Invention, released on May 26, 1967, by Verve Records. Much like their 1966 debut Freak Out!, the album blends complex musical composition with political and social satire. Its blend of jazz, classical, avant-garde and rock idioms within multi-sectional, suite-like compositions, referred to on the album cover as two “oratorios” (with librettos available by mail order), is seen as an important and influential precursor to progressive rock and rock operas. The band had been augmented since Freak Out! by the addition of woodwinds player Bunk Gardner, keyboardist Don Preston, rhythm guitarist Jim Fielder, and drummer Billy Mundi; Fielder quit the group before the album was released, and his name was removed from the album credits.

Evans Remembered is a spectacularly fluid, historically monumental, and masterfully synchronized contemporary jazz studio masterpiece led by the legendary Italian piano virtuoso and visionary composer Enrico Pieranunzi alongside an elite, expanded ensemble framework, released in 2001 by the premier Italian independent jazz preservation imprint Via Veneto Jazz. Spanning over 69 minutes of deeply adventurous, telepathic instrumental interaction across 11 tracks, this high-fidelity restoration serves as an absolute peak monument in early-2000s European post-bop and chamber jazz archaeology. Conceived as a profound, brilliant homage to the harmonic universe of Bill Evans—a foundational cornerstone of Pieranunzi's own lyrical vocabulary—the master pianist utilizes this unique horns-augmented canvas to execute a highly refined, sophisticated sonic blueprint that breathes fresh structural oxygen into Evans' classic compositions and introduces brilliant original counter-tributes.

Bare Bones is a mellow, mostly acoustic collection of original and previously recorded Wishbone Ash songs. The only remaining member from the British outfit's '70s glory days, guitarist Andy Powell selected some numbers from the Argus and Wishbone Four years that blend nicely with some late-era compositions. Soft-rocking country tunes like the superior "Hard Times" and "Baby Don't Mind" dominate most of the Bare Bones track list. Classics like "Errors of My Ways" are low on folk/country appeal, but still sound very different than the original recordings. Despite this offering's unique textural quality, Wishbone Ash fans will definitely recognize the easy melodic sense that the band always captured in the studio. For a group so separated in time from their glory years, Powell and company do a remarkable job keeping things fresh on Bare Bones.

Eternal is a spectacularly powerful, highly melodic, and masterfully structured progressive rock and instrumental metal tour de force by the elite Italian virtuoso duo S&L, released in 2001 by the prestigious French progressive rock specialist label Musea Records. Spanning nearly 45 minutes of hyper-polished studio work, this high-fidelity archive captures the absolute peak of the instrumental collaboration between guitar wizard Lino Esposito and keyboard visionary Salvio Schiano. The music seamlessly bridges the symphonic elegance of classic Euro-prog with the crushing riffs, lightning-fast neoclassical arpeggios, and heavy syncopated geometry of modern prog-metal movements, echoing legendary titans like Liquid Tension Experiment and Planet X. Esposito's fierce, articulate guitar runs weave effortlessly around Schiano's vast analog synth leads and deep orchestral tapestries. Backed by an incredible powerhouse guest engine consisting of driving drummer Mariano Barba and the flexible bass foundations of Corrado Calignano and Sergio Di Gennaro, the production maintains an intense level of rhythmic velocity. The 9-track list is an absolute masterclass in technical fusion dynamics, anchored by the expansive opening movement of Another World, the driving melodic title track Eternal, and the complex, heavy two-part conceptual architecture of Tension and Epilogue (Tension, part 2). Exceptionally preserved in pristine dual-format audio, this rare Mediterranean jewel stands as an absolute mandatory cornerstone and a prized collector's holy grail for global purists of technical progressive metal history and elite instrumental rock evolution.
