From His Last Concert In Avignon is a remarkable two-disc archival release issued in 1995 by LaserLight Digital, capturing trumpet legend Miles Davis during his final, energetic late-period European tours. Recorded live at the Parc des Expositions in Avignon, France in July 1988, this double album documents Davis leading one of his most explosive late-80s electric octets—featuring saxophonist Kenny Garrett, bassist Darryl Jones, lead bassist/guitarist Foley, keyboardists Adam Holzman and Robert Irving III, drummer Ricky Wellman, and percussionist Rudy Bird. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Kirill Karabits, with Corinne Winters leading the cast, presents the world premiere recording of Thomas de Hartmann’s rediscovered opera Esther. Composed during the Nazi occupation of Paris, the work reflects the composer’s response to the Holocaust, drawing parallels with the Biblical story as adapted from Racine. Second Souffle is an extraordinarily sophisticated and elegantly crafted contemporary jazz album by the brilliant French composer, arranger, and woodwind artist Jean-Pascal Moget, released in 2018 through the independent label Chanteloup Musique. Translating to "Second Wind," the record perfectly embodies its title, offering a refreshing and deeply imaginative sonic journey through modern acoustic jazz architectures. Shuky & Aviva mainly recorded records in French. Between 1972 and 1978 appeared over 15 singles, which Levi had partly written himself. From her biggest hit Signorina concertina in 1972 a total of around two million copies have been sold. This song they presented in a German version in 1973 also in the ZDF hit parade.

With this second release devoted to Jules Massenet’s mélodies for voice and orchestra, the Palazzetto Bru Zane completes the first comprehensive recording of his works in this genre, continuing a project initiated a decade ago. Following the rediscovery of orchestral songs by Saint-Saëns in 2017, the Centre de musique romantique française has progressively revived numerous examples by major French composers. This research revealed that Massenet composed more than fifty orchestral mélodies previously unpublished and unrecorded. Their inclusion on this disc restores an important chapter of French vocal music. The recording was made at the Opéra Normandie Rouen in April 2025.

Premiered at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1857, Ambroise Thomas’s Psyché recounts the tragic love of Eros and Psyche, entangled in jealousy and manipulation by Mercury and Psyche’s sisters. Exemplifying mid-19th-century French opéra-comique, the work blends Rossinian brilliance with expressive vocal writing, including dazzling coloratura passages for its leads, with Eros written as a breeches role. Librettists Jules Barbier and Michel Carré skillfully balanced comedy and tragedy through contrasting characters. Anticipating Thomas’s later masterpieces Mignon and Hamlet, Psyché stands as a major achievement in his oeuvre. This recording was made in February 2025 at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest.

Soprano Claudine Ansermet and lutenist Paolo Cherici frequently appear on recording releases which Glossa Cabinet from time to time is putting out, and drawn from the now-disbanded Symphonia label. Here, the delightful chansons of Claude Le Jeune are interspersed with preludes, dances and fantasias for solo lute by figures such as Mertel, Perrichon and Adriaenssen. Le Jeune worked at the court of Henri IV before being succeeded by Pierre Guédron, and was one of the most prolific and significant composers of the second half of the 16th century, and one of the chief exponents of “musique mesurée à l’antique”.
