NOW Music will release Yearbook ’72 – Extra, a 3CD companion to the main Yearbook ’72 that was released last week. It features 61 songs including sizeable hits from Elton John, T. Rex, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, The Kinks, Hot Chocolate, Michael Jackson, Al Green, The Supremes, Bill Withers, Sly & The Family Stone, The New Seekers, Elvis Presley, The Moody Blues, The Hollies, Slade, Mungo Jerry and more. As usual, this ‘Extra’ is presented in a six-panel card sleeve and is only available on CD there’s no vinyl edition. Yearbook ’72 Extra will be released on June 2026.

Original Hits: 70s is a decent six-disc set, highlighting 111 pop singles released in that decade. Along with the original versions of radio classics by Al Stewart, Blondie, the Knack, KC & the Sunshine Band, and Dr. Hook, are less-than-obvious inclusions by Peter Tosh, XTC, the Move, and Benny Hill!

Spirits Having Flown is regarded today as something of a letdown, representing the tail-end of the Bee Gees' period of greatest success, perhaps because it preceded a two-year layoff that, in turn, heralded a decline in their fortunes. At the time, however, no one heard anything less than what they expected – beautiful slow dance numbers ("Too Much Heaven," "Love You Inside Out"), achingly gorgeous romantic numbers ("Reaching Out"), soaring ballads ("Spirits (Having Flown)"), and pounding dance-rock numbers ("Tragedy"). If a few songs on the LP's second side, like "Stop (Think Again)" or "Search, Find," weren't quite up to that high standard, even the latter song displayed dazzling interwoven vocals on the choruses (which were pretty infectious) that made the trip worthwhile.

Street Life is a studio album by the American jazz band the Crusaders. It was a top 20 album on three Billboard charts and represents the peak of the band's commercial popularity. The title track, featuring singer Randy Crawford, was a Top 40 pop single (No. 36) and became the group's most successful entry on the soul chart (No. 17). It was No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. "Street Life" also hit the disco chart, peaking at No. 75, and was re-recorded by Doc Severinsen with Crawford reprising her vocal for the opening sequence of the noir crime drama Sharky's Machine, directed by Burt Reynolds in 1981. This faster-paced version was also featured in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown, released in 1997.

Wham! followed the parallel path of most of their British pop peers, celebrating colorful, candied hooks and big, effervescent beats at a time most emerging U.K. groups were dedicated to stylish, detached synth pop. George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, the childhood friends who comprised Wham!, didn't ignore fashion – their flashy visuals were tailor-made for MTV – but they shunned the arty and dour portions of new wave, building their persona on American dance music and pop, even dabbling in a bit of rap on their first single "Wham! Rap (Enjoy What You Do)." That single, along with "Young Guns (Go for It)" and "Bad Boys," broke them into the U.K. Top Ten in 1983, but it was the jubilant "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" that turned them into international superstars. Almost immediately, Michael stood apart from Ridgeley: he had the supple, soulful voice showcased on their second number one, "Careless Whisper," which was occasionally credited to Michael on his own. Wham! sustained their run at the top of the charts through 1985 but in 1986, "A Different Corner" announced Michael's separation from his longtime friend.
