Alicia Augello Cook was born in Hell's Kitchen in early 1981. Raised by her Italian-American mother, she enrolled in classical piano lessons at the age of seven and began writing songs four years later. An education at the Professional Performing Arts School helped develop her vocal skills, and at the age of 16 she graduated as the class valedictorian. Two Columbias loomed on the horizon: Columbia University and Columbia Records, both of which extended offers. Although she attempted to make both options work, Keys found it difficult to juggle academic and professional commitments and chose to focus exclusively on her music career. Assuming the stage name of Alicia Keys, she began working with Columbia and contributed a song to the Men in Black soundtrack, but disputes with the label resulted in her contract's termination.

Everything started when the three Keshava members met DJ Om, who was quite well known in the Los Angeles area, Balearic Islands and Barcelona, so they decided to start a new project, Govinda, along with the support of Indian and Sri Lankan singers, plus the singer/dancer "Chandra". The new project gets immediate interest, and Govinda release their first album "Selling India by the pound" and their first 12" single "Trascendental Ecstasy" which also includes a long and uptempo version of "Awaken"…

American pianist Kenny Drew (1928-1993) moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1964. Although he may have somewhat faded from the radar of American jazz fans, he had a fantastic career in Denmark and was beloved by European and Japanese jazz fans. In the late 1970s and 1980s, Drew's popularity in Japan grew to incredible heights when he began recording for Japanese labels such as Baystate and Alpha under a partnership with Japanese producer Makoto Kimata…

His musical testimony, recorded only three months before he died. The music is simple and soulful. His vocals sound broken, the voice of a dangerously ill man. The St. Louis blues scene has lost one of his most sympathetic representatives.

Sad World I & II is a double CD of strange ambient space music from Dr. Atmo and Ramin. It is on Pete Namlook's Fax label, so the strangeness is not unexpected. Atmo and Ramin build very slow atmospheres from low drones. They weave those atmospheres around and through each other. They insert some outright odd voice samples in the middle of the whole thing. These slowly evolving soundscapes have just enough rhythm and structure to stay just outside of minimalism and just inside weirdness. This is a fun CD and a great listen. It will appeal to fans of Viridian Sun, Vir Unis, Pete Namlook, and Michael Stearns.

William Shield rose from relatively humble beginnings to become the ‘house’ composer to Covent Garden, for which he wrote stage works full of panache and tunefulness. He met and befriended Haydn who was to prove a lasting influence. In 1782 Shield published his Six String Quartets, Op. 3, some of the most richly rewarding works of their type in 18th-century England. The transparency of parts, use of imitation, infusion of Sturm und Drang elements as well as the bucolic and folkloric writing, all demonstrate Shield’s art, as does the progressive writing of the last of the six, in C minor.

Ganze fünf Wochen älter als sein Bonner Kollege, den er um neun Jahre überlebte, war er seit 1802 Hofkapellmeister zu Würzburg, wo sein symphonisches Schaffen einen staunenswerten Aufschwung nahm und offenbar neu sortiert wurde: Die drei hier eingespielten Symphonien Nr. 1 bis 3 sind einige Jahre jünger als ihre vielgelobte Schwester, deren verheißungsvolle Qualität sie indes konsequent fortsetzen.
