At the 1964 Sanremo Festival, a fifteen-year-old girl appeared who broke all the odds to win with "Non ho l'eta" (I'm not old enough… to love you) which not only took first place but also was designated as the Italian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Copenhagen. She arrived, sang and won. It was the first time that Italy had won the contest and Gigliola emerged from it an international figure. In those first years of her career, she got into the habit of recording all her songs in Spanish.

This full-length debut from British blues-rockers Spooky Tooth has a tone similar to Traffic with its psychedelic take on the influential pop and soul music of the '60s. A few cover tunes including Janis Ian's "Society's Child" and the Nashville Teens' "Tobacco Road" are included, but original songs like the soulful ballad "It Hurts You So" and "Bubbles" (with its Beach Boys sensibility) are the real standouts. The cheery, psychedelic "It's All About a Roundabout" is the catchiest number by far. On this dreamy cut, vocalist/keyboardist Gary Wright demonstrates some sharp melodic and compositional instincts. Although Spooky Tooth eventually became better-known for their straightforward blues-rock, the trippy pop of It's All About counts as a career highlight for the group. Fans of late-'60s British rock are definitely advised to check out this impressive release.

Philzuid's sixth album includes works by Louise Farrenc and Robert Schumann. This brave and welcome attempt to rewrite or at least re-evaluate music history features live recordings of Louise Farrenc's Third Symphony and Robert Schumann's Third (Rhenish) Symphony under chief conductor Duncan Ward. Female composers in the 19th century were not expected to pursue a career, let alone compete with the great symphonists of the period; Schumann, however, had all eyes and ears on him whenever he premiered a new work or took up a new position.

The St. Louis Symphony and their music director Stéphane Denève present a wonderful program featuring two of the most accomplished American composers in history: Leonard Bernstein with his Serenade and John Williams with his Concerto for violin and orchestra, both performed by star James Ehnes, one of the most exceptional North American violinists. John Williams himself was present at the recording of his violin concerto, working together with the St. Louis Symphony, Denève, and Ehnes.

Born in Torino in 1967, Alfredo Franco was involved in non-classical music in his youth before taking up the classical guitar. He then undertook advanced studies in the historical and critical fields in the Department for Art, Music and Theatre of the University of Turin. He would later abandon concert activity as a performer and focus instead on composition. His now prolific classical guitar output has been well received by important interpreters such as Cristiano Porqueddu and increasingly programmed on the stage and in the studio.

Célia Oneto Bensaid’s third album on the NoMadMusic label features the early concertos of two composers and pianists, accompanied by the Orchestre national d’Avignon-Provence under the baton of Débora Waldman. The album aims to bring musical heritage into the spotlight by showcasing the mutual esteem and incredible virtuosity of the two composers.

Dr. Hook is a typical band that everyone has a number of hits to sing along. Not surprising, because between 1971 and 1983 the band scored no fewer than 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, 6 of which reached the top 10. Also in Europe, the band was immensely popular. In England, the band also scored six top 10 hits and 11 singles in the Netherlands took the hit list, three of which reached the top three. All the singles that the band released in that period, together with a number of essential album tracks come together on the first two discs of this "Dr. Collected Hook, "including" Sylvia's Mother ',' Sharing The Night Together "," When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman ',' A Little Bit More "and" Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk. On the third disc are again collected some rarities, which many now appear for the first time on CD and two songs are completely available for the first time. Unique is the track 'Sylvia's Father, "in which half the evergreen story suddenly switches from' Mother 'to' Father '. This live version was recorded in 1974 in Amsterdam. Also 'The Cover Of Radio Times' has never been commercially available. This version took the band ever special on the BBC that "The Cover Of The Rolling Stone 'would not run in connection with a commercial message too. Disc also contains three numbers that the band recorded in 1971 for the soundtrack "Who Is Harry Kellerman And Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me." These appear for the first time on CD, like some B-sides of singles and 12 "versions.

This is the first of Stephane Grappelli's sessions as a leader during the 1950s to be issued on CD, which is rather surprising given the availability of his work from the last two decades of his life. Grappelli is heard exclusively in a quartet with pianist Maurice Vander, bassist Pierre Michelot, and drummer Baptiste Reilles, except for two takes of "Someone to Watch Over Me," when Vander makes an ill-advised switch to harpsichord. The violinist is not nearly as aggressive as he would become in the decades to follow, seemingly concentrating more on achieving a beautiful tone than dazzling listeners with his considerable abilities as an improviser. Most of the material recorded during these three dates remained in his repertoire for the remainder of his career; with up-tempo selections like "The Lady Is a Tramp" and "'S Wonderful" getting the nod over most of the ballad interpretations…

The Smashing Pumpkins Alt-rock icons the Smashing Pumpkins are recognized for their amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth, psychedelia, and dream pop; a layered, powerful style driven by swirling, distorted guitars that churned beneath lead singer/songwriter Billy Corgan's angst-ridden lyrics. One of the most visible bands of '90s, alongside grunge acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins achieved mainstream success over the decade with classic releases Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. After a foray into electronic rock on Adore, Corgan issued a final pair of efforts before putting the group to sleep for an extended early-2000s hiatus that ended with 2007's Zeitgeist.

Bruce Springsteen Bruce Springsteen once said he intended to make an album with words like Bob Dylan that sounded like Phil Spector with vocals like Roy Orbison's, a nifty summary of many, but not all, of his artistic ambitions and a key to his appeal. Unlike any other singer/songwriters saddled with the appellation of "the new Dylan" in the early '70s, Springsteen never hid how he was raised on '60s AM radio. He loved rock & roll, whether it was the initial blast from the '50s or the mini-symphonies from the days before the Beatles or the garage rockers that surfaced in the wake of the British Invasion, and all this could be heard within his wild, wooly collective E Street Band, a group who debuted on his second album, 1973's The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle, and who would support him throughout most of his career.

This 4-CD set was produced by Alain Pailler and Tony Baldwin from meticulously restored originals that let you relive the Duke Ellington Orchestra’s golden age as though you were right there. These legendary 1940-1942 sessions include Ellington classics such as Ko-Ko, Take The ‘A’ Train, Perdido and Harlem Air-Shaft, masterfully arranged by the Duke himself and his right-hand man Billy Strayhorn. The set prominently features several Swing Era giants at their very peak: Cootie Williams and Ray Nance on trumpets; cornettist Rex Stewart; trombone players Joe Nanton and Lawrence Brown; Barney Bigard on clarinet; Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster and Harry Carney on saxophones, plus the brilliant young doublebass prodigy Jimmy Blanton.
