Sanctuary originally released this collection several years ago but unfortuntely, they also omitted several tracks that make up "The Planets Of Life" disc. Those were originally released by Soul Clock in 1969 as "The Whispers" and subsequentally reissued in 1973 by Janus as "The Planets Of Life." The omitted tracks appear on another Sanctuary collection with eight previously unreleased bonus tracks and the original artwork from the 1969 LP. That collection showcases the Soul Clock years from 1969-70 while the original release of this set of discs showcases the three original Janus albums from 1972-74. So depending on which collections you buy, you may get about ten tracks that repeat. But the lost gem here is the track, "Feel Like Comin' Home," which is previously only seen released as a B-side single. It's also released on some copies of the original "Greatest Hits" LP on Janus from 1975.

In December 1920, two years after Claude Debussy’s untimely death, the editors of the renowned Parisian musical magazine La Revue musicale published a special issue dedicated to the composer’s memory. At its heart was a joint memorial composition by prominent composers of the time. Each paid tribute to the late master in their own typical style while also reflecting on Debussy’s aesthetic, creating a kind of musical ‘time capsule’ of Paris in this unique historical period. From Dukas’ final piano work to Stravinsky’s monumental chorale, this is the first complete recording—made for its centenary—of Le Tombeau with the related works that proceeded from it.

This album could easily have turned top-heavy. After all, here's a record which, in just under 40 minutes, covers anything from arabic scales to Japanese sounds, from free jazz references to concepts by Kari Ikonen's favourite painter Vasiliy Kandinsky. To realise his vision, Ikonen even personally developed a device allowing him to play micro-intervals on his piano. And yet, things turned out differently: If anything, the results sound dream-like and mesmerising rather than stodgy and severe. The album's genesis may serve to explain this paradox. In August of 2019, Ikonen suddenly found himself with a month of free time. Without thinking twice and as if in a premonition of the Covid lockdown, he recorded Impressions, Improvisations and Compositions at his own home. His only companion was his beloved Steinway, captured by a personal selection of high-end microphones. Just a few days after the final session, the pieces landed on the desk of ECM- and Blue-Note-engineer Johannes Lundberg who mixed the album at his Gothenburg Epideminstudios.

The premiere of the Symphony No. 1 in E major by Hans Rott, written more than 100 years earlier, in 1989 introduced the international music world to a composer who had been unknown or known only by name even to most pundits. His colleagues and friends included the one or two-year younger composers Gustav Mahler and Hugo Wolf. Besides Wagner, Bruckner was the most important model for Rott’s first symphonic work. The symphony is the summum opus the not quite twenty-year-old left behind. It is his first and final finished major work. It is the synthesis of what he had written to date and a proclamation of what might have come.

Eddie Higgins started his professional career in Chicago, Illinois, while studying at the Northwestern University School of Music. An elegant and sophisticated pianist, his encyclopedic harmonic approach and wide range of his repertory made him one of the most distinctive jazz pianists to come out of Chicago, gaining the respect of local and visiting musicians for his notable mastery of the instrument. Higgins also had the unusual ability to sound equally persuasive in a broad span of music, whether he was playing traditional swing, exciting bebop or reflexive ballads, providing the tone and stylistic flavor of each styles, as both a soloist and as accompanist.

The remaining members released it under their former name, Here & Now. Honestly, it makes no difference.
