The Simple Life features the internationally renown rhythmist Leon Parker on 15 performances that bring his "vocal-body-rhythms" style (one that makes his voice and body his instrument) to the forefront of jazz. Merging the concept of music, dance, and theater, this is Parker's first release since 1998 and it combines performances recorded in unusual venues such as the streets of New York City, in a loft, live, and in the studio. Leon Parker's core group, vocalists Elizabeth Kontomanou and Ugonna Okegwo, are joined by several guest artists, including Steve Wilson and Sam Newsome on saxophones, Jacky Terrasson and Xavier Davis on piano, Tom Harrell on trumpet, and Adam Cruz taking over the percussion duties on "Ray of Light (Revisited)." Steve Wilson turns in a spectacular alto saxophone solo on "Belief," a live version recorded at the Village Vanguard.

Supertramp came into their own on their third album, 1974's Crime of the Century, as their lineup gelled but, more importantly, so did their sound. The group still betrayed a heavy Pink Floyd influence, particularly in its expansive art rock arrangements graced by saxophones, but Supertramp isn't nearly as spooky as Floyd – they're snarky collegiate elitists, an art rock variation on Steely Dan or perhaps a less difficult 10cc, filled with cutting jokes and allusions, best heard on "Bloody Well Right."…

Bass player Terje Gewelt will be a familiar name for those fans of Nordic Jazz. Terje has been a sideman and band leader on many albums and is a product of the same Berklee College that launched Scottish tenor man Tommy Smith and pianist Danilo Perez. He has also worked with Billy Cobham and Mark Isham and has also appeared on over 100 recordings.
Spindrift is Gewelt’s 10th album as a leader and marks his return to the electric bass guitar. He studied electric fretless bass guitar with Jaco Pastorius in the eighties and this album acknowledges the 25th anniversary of Jaco’s untimely death and the undoubted influence on his writing and performing. Those with a passing familiarity of Pastorius’ repertoire may well expect funky tracks like The Chicken or shows of bravura technique like Teen Town. That Gewelt understands the deeper musicality of Pastorius is the triumph of this recording.

David Ocker played a piece of Francesco Zappa's music for Frank Zappa because it was popular with some college music students. Because Francesco Zappa's music was not published and could only be found in the Mormon library, Frank Zappa decided to publish it. He then decided to program some of these pieces into his new Synclavier synthesizer.

Studio outtakes from a 1994 recording session featuring Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia and guitarist-composer Sanjay Mishra have been released by the Jerry Garcia Music Arts imprint as Front Street Outtakes. The three-track collection consists of songs laid down during the sessions that yielded Mishra and Garcia’s 1995 album Blue Incantation.
