Detroit rocker Suzi Quatro's massive catalog of attitude and melody opened doors for bands for generations to follow. Without Quatro's direct influence, bands like the Runaways and the Pretenders would have been entirely different animals. At almost 70 minutes and with a massive 20 tracks, this collection is an exhaustive cross section of several of Quatro's strongest periods. The earliest, more singer/songwriter days are represented by her first single "Rolling Stone" and the leaning-toward-glammy "Can the Can," both huge hits in the U.K. but overlooked stateside. Middle-period hits from the late '70s like "She's in Love with You" and the Grease soundtrack-esque theatrics of "I've Never Been in Love" serve well to show Quatro's evolution from softer beginnings to a more over-the-top persona as her career soldiered on.

Berry Gordy hated these two-fers: too much for too little money; but he doesn't own the masters anymore and Universal International has revitalized the concept via digitally remastered CDs. This combo features Time Out, which spawned the hits "Doggone Right," "Baby, Baby Don't Cry," "Abraham, Martin & John," the popular B-side "Here I Go Again," an uptempo take of "My Girl," and two fine Smokey Robinson songs: "Once I Got to Know You (Couldn't Help But Love You)" and "I'll Take You Anyway That You Come." Four in Blue, aka the Miracles' forgotten album, has some good moments that few know about because none of its tracks emerged as single; not even a B-side. "You Send Me (With Your Good Loving)" sounds like a hit; "When Nobody Cares," a cry for racial tolerance; "Don't Say You Love Me," a great Richard Morris production; and Holland, Dozier, Holland's "My World Is Empty." Not as arresting as Time Out, but solid.

This blu-ray release was originally broadcast live in HD from The Met on February 7, 2009. In addition to Netrebko’s spectacular performance, Mariusz Kwiecien’s Enrico delivers theatrical truth with a matchless baritone with the luster of polished mahogany. This Met performance of director Mary Zimmerman’s “imaginative staging…and nuanced portrayals” (Times) is a tour de force of music and theatricality. Having dazzled opera audiences from St. Petersburg to L.A. as Lucia, Anna Netrebko triumphantly returns to the Metropolitan Opera in this touchstone coloratura role!

The timeless Way out West established Sonny Rollins as jazz's top tenor saxophonist (at least until John Coltrane surpassed him the following year). Joined by bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne, Rollins is heard at one of his peaks on such pieces as "I'm an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande)," his own "Way out West," "There Is No Greater Love," and "Come, Gone" (a fast stomp based on "After You've Gone")…

There is a cool and relaxed feeling to this session of "Midnight on Cloud 69" and ethereal quality which sets the tempo and mood of quietude. It is, contrary to the hot and heavy-breathed experience of daily living, and hiatus in which man may forget his tribulations and give vent to his imagination to trail the tail of a cloud as it glides through the dark and empty heavens.

Subtitled "A Pythagorean Theory Tale," Numbers was a concept album relating to a faraway galaxy, a planet called Polygor, a palace, and its people, the Polygons. So one learned from the album's accompanying booklet. The songs presumably told the tale, but as with so many concept albums, listening to Numbers was like hearing a Broadway cast album without having seen the show - something seemed to be going on, but it was hard to tell what. The setting did allow Cat Stevens to indulge his affection for Middle Ages madrigal music, and individual songs, notably the singles-chart entry "Banapple Gas," were appealing. The lyrics were full of references to home, God, and "the truth," which gave the whole a vaguely spiritual tone, though the key word here is "vague"…

Accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier has long been a creative presence on ECM recordings, heard with the groups of Anouar Brahem (on Le pas du chat noir and Le voyage de Sahar), Louis Sclavis (Dans la nuit) and François Couturier (Nostalghia, Tarkovsky Quartet), as well as in duo with Marco Ambrosini (Inventio). Now comes the first documentation of a new endeavour, with guitarist Kevin Seddiki, whose far-reaching musical imagination matches Matinier’s own. Sedikki, who makes his ECM debut here, studied classical guitar with Pablo Márquez and has also worked with many improvisers across the idioms, from jazz to transcultural projects. The range of music addressed on Rivages runs from the traditional “Greensleeves” to Gabriel Fauré’s “Les Berceaux” to compositions and improvisations by both of the protagonists. Rivages was recorded at Lugano’s Auditorio Stelio Molo Studio in April 2018, and produced by Manfred Eicher.

Conductor, composer, violinist, and pianist Mantovani was one of the most popular and prolific easy listening artists of all time. His trademark "cascading strings" (or "tumbling strings") effect gave him an instantly recognizable sound, and his heavy reliance on the string section in general helped map out the blueprint for much of the light orchestral music that followed in his wake. His repertoire did feature original compositions, but was built chiefly on lush adaptations of familiar melodies: TV and movie themes, show tunes, pop hits (chiefly of the MOR variety), classical material, and the like. Starting his career in the '20s, Mantovani was very much a product of the recording age: he focused almost entirely on recording, instead of live performance; he was one of the first artists to utilize the LP as a primary medium for his releases…

IX is the third album by an Italian thrash/black metal band Bulldozer, which was released in December 1987. Without a doubt the fastest and most destructive Bulldozer release to date, showing a band at the top of its compositional maturity. Phenomenal riffage combining their Blackened Thrash trademark with a Speed Metal vibe, rentless aggressive drums and the incredible vocal delivery of the evil lord AC Wild!!

Damage Done is the sixth full-length studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity. Here, the band returns to a more classic style while holding the changes made in their albums Haven and Projector, especially in the keyboards, but this is the first record since The Mind's I that does not feature clean vocals. Martin Henriksson started doing some "lead guitar riffs" on the record, so the band showed influences from The Gallery in the duality of lead guitars. Mikael Stanne said that the lyrics on this album are about the frailty of life. The song "Cathode Ray Sunshine" is featured in the video game's soundtrack, Brütal Legend. The 2009 reissue includes bonus tracks and digitally remastered audio.

Having let eight years pass since his last A&M album, Quincy Jones made his debut on his own label with his most extravagant, most star-studded, most brilliantly sequenced pop album to date - which could have only been assembled by the man who put together "We Are the World." Jones was one of the first establishment musicians to embrace rap, and one of the first to link rap with his jazz heritage; it's hard not to be moved by the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Zawinul, Sarah Vaughan, and George Benson electronically appearing on "Birdland" and trading brief licks with the likes of Kool Moe Dee and Big Daddy Kane on "Jazz Corner of the World"…
