Kuschelrock, Vol. 3 is a double-disc collection of American pop/rock hits, most dating from the '80s, and most (but not all) having had substantial chart success. It's an excellent survey of the pop mainstream, the only caveat being that it is a German import and might be a bit pricey for American consumers.

Inventors of "Space-Rock" and laser beams during concerts, the Rockets are an electronic music band that has left its mark especially in Italy and Russia. Their silver heads and guitars in the shape of sun and stars are alive in the memories of all those who lived through the period between the 1970s and 1980s. Today the Rockets return to Italy with a brand new album entitled "WONDERLAND" full of new songs dedicated to the theme of children (our true future, a better future, a better planet).

Scottish-born singer Jimmy Somerville became a surprise success in the mid-'80s. Instead of being Duran Duran-cute, Jimmy Somerville looked like the average boy next door. Instead of belting out his musical repertoire with a self-conscious urgency to prove himself as a singer (like Rick Astley or George Michael), Somerville possessed a dramatic, piercing falsetto that made the Associates' Billy Mackenzie sound like Tom Waits. But what really made Jimmy Somerville distinctive was his openness about his sexuality. The 1980s was the decade of androgyny, with artists like Annie Lennox, Boy George, and Poison emulating the gender-bending approach of 1970s-era David Bowie. Other performers such as Morrissey and the aforementioned George Michael kept their fans guessing about their sexual orientation. Jimmy Somerville, however, already answered the "is he or isn't he" question before anyone had a chance to ask, and he did so without a trace of mascara.

Collection includes 5 albums and 7 singles by Recoil. Recoil is a musical project created by former Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder. Essentially a solo venture, Recoil began whilst Wilder was still in Depeche Mode as an outlet for his experimental, less pop-oriented compositions. Once he announced his departure from the group in 1995, Recoil was transformed from a small side-project into Wilder's primary musical enterprise.

Even before their debut album, Happiness, became one of the fastest-selling albums in the U.K. in 2010, Manchester duo Hurts already had a rabid online fan base, stoked by several arch, expertly art-directed videos that the group self-produced, which captured the eye while showcasing the band's mix of '80s synth pop melodicism, Krautrock angularity, and '90s Hi-NRG balladry. The videos expertly juxtaposed a Helmut Newton-esque black-and-white aesthetic with the group's musical love of dance-club dramatics, á la Depeche Mode, Erasure, and Pet Shop Boys, eventually attracting the attention of Euro-pop diva Kylie Minogue, who ended up singing on the track "Devotion."

Issued on Essential in 1994, Shriekback's double-disc Natural History set merely couples The Best of Shriekback: The Infinite (Kaz, 1987) with The Best of Shriekback, Vol. 2: Evolution (Kaz, 1988) under a new name. For the curious, this might be preferable to The Y Records Years (also a two-disc set, released six years later in 2000), since the terrain documented here is more expansive, covering the band from its inception through 1985's Oil and Gold. One major attraction is the number of selections on the second disc culled from the long out of print Jam Science. One major problem will be finding Natural History, as it has gone out of circulation since its release.

Dog Eat Dog is the 12th album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, released in 1985. It was her second album for Geffen Records. The album was a departure for Mitchell due to its synthetic sound (featuring production work by British synthesiser musician Thomas Dolby). Lyrically, the album dealt with prominent issues in mid 1980s society, such as Reaganism, televangelists, consumerism and famine in Ethiopia. One of Mitchell's more unusual songs, "Smokin' (Empty, Try Another)" was recorded by sampling the sound of the cigarette machine in the hall of the studio where Wild Things Run Fast was recorded.

The production, performance, mixing, running order, and sleeve on First Love: Last Rites all add up to an outstanding piece of work, both lyrically and sonically. Peter Kingsbery and Anna LaCazio are on fine form vocally, while John Pierce and Pat Mastelotto are awesome as the rhythm section. Rhett Davies' production is (arguably) the best of his career to date, including Roxy Music's Avalon and King Crimson's Discipline and Beat. First Love should've been huge, but sadly, Cock Robin were victims of the dreaded record company – poorly promotion and the wrong choice of singles meant a premature end, but what a way to say au revoir. Why on earth "For Experience Sake," "Win or Lose," and "My First Confession" were kept as album tracks is a mystery more oblique than the one Kingsbery sings about on "Worlds Apart."

Simultaneously more accessible and ambitious than any of the Cure's previous albums, the double album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me finds Robert Smith expanding his pop vocabulary by tentatively adding bigger guitars, the occasional horn section, lite-funk rhythms, and string sections. It's eclectic, to be sure, but it's also a mess, bouncing from idea to idea and refusing to develop some of the most intriguing detours. Even if Kiss Me doesn't quite gel, its best moments – including the deceptively bouncy "Why Can't I Be You?" and the stately "Just Like Heaven" – are remarkable and help make the album one of the group's very best.

Ultimate Collection is a 1999 compilation of songs by the band The Fixx. It is largely a collection of singles; many tracks appear as they did on their respective 7" releases. It also has two B-sides and one recording pulled from the rare Happy Landings EP, which make it stand out from other greatest hits collections. This is the only Fixx collection to include the original recordings of all tracks.

Cardboard sleeve reissue series release from The Cars featuring latest digital remastering and the high-fidelity SHM-CD format. Features cardboard sleeve (mini LP), which faithfully replicate the original US LP artwork, an obi, a description and lyrics. Part of 6-album The Cars cardboard sleeve reissue series features the albums "The Cars," "Candy-O," "Panorama," "Shake It Up," "Heartbeat City," and "Door To Door." The Cars was an American New Wave rock group, formed in Boston in 1976. Emerging from the new wave scene in the late 1970s, the line-up consisted of singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter Ric Ocasek; bassist and singer Benjamin Orr; lead guitarist Elliot Easton; keyboardist Greg Hawkes; and drummer David Robinson. The Cars were one of the most successful American New Wave bands to emerge in the late 1970s, and in the ensuing decade the band racked up a string of platinum albums and Top 40 singles. In April 2018, the Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and reunited once more to perform at the induction ceremony.

In 2013, the great five-disc Stranglers box set The Old Testament: The U.A. Studio Recordings (1977-1982) from 1992 was reissued, featuring most of the group's best albums plus a bunch of drool-worthy bonuses (demos, B-sides, remixes, and other whatnot). This bulky 11-disc set was released just one year after – the excuse being that the band's 40th anniversary must be honored – but the differences are vast, with this one serving a purpose for the hardcore while Old Testament is the clear winner for the more casual listener…

The Stranglers worked better as a singles band than they did as album artists, but that doesn't mean that the double-disc, 43-track retrospective The Hit Men 1977-1991 is consistently engaging. Considerably older than their punk peers, the Stranglers nevertheless knocked out several terrific songs in their first records, including "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)" and "Hanging Around," but by the mid-'80s they had become a little bland and predictable, as evidenced by covers of "96 Tears" and "All Day and All of the Night."…
