The instrumental ensemble Opera Quinta, directed by Fabrizio Longo ,violin soloist of the team ,adds an important element to the inexhaustible rediscovery of the eighteenth century Italian heritage. The sonatas op. 1 by Angelo Michele Besseghi - composer of which, unfortunately, only few biographical information has reached us - were published in 1710, openly paying homage to the edition of his much more famous countryman who ten years earlier would have marked the course of European violin history: the Opera 5 by Arcangelo Corelli.

Think of the one-shot Seattle supergroup Mad Season as the grunge version of sober living. Guitarist Mike McCready, best known as the main six-string slinger in Pearl Jam, met bassist John Baker Saunders while in rehab, and the two paired with Screaming Trees' drummer Barrett Martin and Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley, partially in hopes of steering the singer onto the path of the straight and narrow. Ultimately, the plan didn't pan out, but for a brief while, the quartet - who adopted the name Mad Season - did have their moment of clarity, captured on the 1995 album Above. There was a single issued to modern rock radio - "River of Deceit" - but this record downplayed easy hooks and melody in favor of churning introspection and slow vamps that occasionally flirt with blues (the never-ending 12-bar "Artificial Red," balanced by the distorto riffs of "I Don't Everything"), but usually conjure nothing more than the dank sludge of Seattle…

Do They Hurt? (1980) is the fifth album by British jazz fusion group Brand X. To many, Brand X was either a source of great inspiration or great consternation. Either way, the band was never boring. With DO THEY HURT? Brand X further explores the far reaches of musical experimentation to create their unique fusion. The core members of bassist Percy Jones and guitarist John Goodsall are present, with drummer Mike Clark replacing Phil Collins on most tracks. Also making only a brief appearance, having been mostly replaced by Peter Robinson, is original keyboardist Robin Lumley.

On their second album Long Player, the Faces truly gel – which isn't quite the same thing as having the band straighten up and fly right because in many ways this is album is even more ragged than their debut, with tracks that sound like they were recorded through a shoebox thrown up against a couple of haphazardly placed live cuts. But if the album seems pieced together from a few different sources, the band itself all seems to be coming from the same place, turning into a ferocious rock & roll band who, on their best day, could wrestle the title of greatest rock & roll band away from the Stones.
