Recorded live on September 10, 1993, for BBC Radio 1, this set strips back the studio polish in favour of raw, surging energy, breathing new life into core tracks from their Brown Album era. Their explosive 1993 John Peel session was a broadcast that captured the UK rave pioneers at their most visceral and unfiltered. The versions of 'Lush 3-1', 'Walk Now…' and 'Semi Detached' found here are looser, leaner and more urgent. 'Lush' in particular throbs with a relentless momentum, shedding its original texture in favor of a tougher, more improvised drive. It's a perfect showcase of Orbital's gift for live manipulation, transforming structured studio pieces into kinetic, spontaneous soundscapes. This reissue boasts newly commissioned artwork by Intro and aligns with the legacy of the Peel Sessions as a proving ground for boundary-pushing talent. Critics and longtime fans have praised the EP for its intensity and fluidity, supporting Orbital's status as live innovators. Radio Sessions is a nostalgic artifact and a reminder of how thrilling and forward-thinking Orbital's sound was.

Eero Heinonen has long been a champion of the composers neglected output for piano. With this recording he continues to make the case for music that does not easily give up its secrets but, in the right hands, sings with Sibeliuss unique voice. Sibelius was not himself an accomplished pianist, but he wrote for the instrument at which he composed throughout his career, and maintained that, while often overlooked, its time would come. In recent years his prophecy has come true, especially with the Op.75 suite of five pieces which he composed in 1914 and titled The Trees.

Ginastera (Buenos Aires) was married to a cellist, his inspiration to write numerous works for cello. He is a true master in integrating the folk-music of his country into his works, that show a great variety: symphonic music, chamber-music, ballet, opera, songs, choirmusic. Pampeana no. 2 (1950), a rhapsody for cello, inspired by the Argentinean pampa is an exuberant piece, full of virtuosity. In this version for cello-octet two soloists engage in a lively discussion.

George Philipp Telemann was a composer whose creative powers continued undiminished through his old age of eighty six years. The last decade of his life witnessed an astonishing creative surge, perhaps comparable only to that of Verdi. It was then that the eighty-year-old, with all the benefits of mature mastery at his command, penned some of his most beautiful vocal works. The oratorio "The Delivered Israel" is a work from this period.

"Concise" is a word not often, if ever, used to describe the Grateful Dead—the band who just released a 60-disc, 450-track compilation of live shows documenting some of shows recorded across their 25-year existence as an iconic touring entity. The Dead was always a quintessential live experience, with their most transcendent—and also their most indulgent—moments occurring during their drawn-out onstage improvisations. Jerry Garcia famously said, "I think of recording as sort of a necessary evil in a way," and, accordingly, "studio Dead" was always the lesser Dead, even though American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are essential inclusions in any music fan's collection, and mid-'70s studio efforts like Shakedown Street and From the Mars Hotel are well-regarded by both Deadheads and casual listeners.

Entirely unfiltered, as every song was recorded live in a complete take with no overdubs or edits. The audio was recorded by Mark Rankin, François-Xavier Delaby, Henri d’Armancourt and Alban Lejeune, and was produced by Mark Rankin. Final mixes by Mark Rankin, Joshua Homme and Michael Shuman.

Pianist Duke Jordan (1920 - 2006) was approached in New York by Marcel Romano, musical consultant of the French film Les Liaisons Dangereuses directed by Roger Vadim in 1959, to audition for the soundtrack. It laid down the groundwork for Jordan's rise to the star composer status. All too famous "No Problem" is not included in this sketching but a few of the masterpieces we come to appreciate later are here in their prototypes. This recording made in a NY studio has never been heard (except maybe by Vadim). SteepleChase is proud to announce the world premier release of the album of huge cultural/historical significance.

Paradise, the exceptional new recording by The Westerlies brass quartet, comes at a perfect time in history. The music — sublime, precise and deeply spiritual — serves as a balm for the soul during a worrisome era. While the headlines scream of the starving of Palestinians in Gaza, the killing of Jews in Washington, D.C., the upheaval of international trade wars and the persistent sowing of divisiveness, The Westerlies turn their mighty clarion sound to the Sacred Harp music of the American South dating back to the mid-1800s.

A trip to Jamaica in January 2024 set 'Pure Good Vibes' in motion. Ada headed to the island after hearing that her bassist and producer Livingstone Brown, was flying there to work with Maxi Priest. It was an idea that was underlined by her desire to explore the music, culture and Jamaican heritage that had also shaped the lives of her other band members Luke Smith (keyboard) and Josh McNasty (drums).

A cosmic fusion of deep funk, interstellar jazz, and avant-garde soundscapes, On Jupiter stands as one of Sun Ra’s most iconic releases. Recorded in 1979 during a prolific period at Variety Arts Studios in New York, this album captures the Arkestra at the height of their creative powers, blending futuristic improvisation with infectious rhythms and otherworldly textures. Sun Ra’s Variety Arts Studios sessions (1978-1982) were legendary—he recorded there two to three times a week, often after a late-night concert, gathering his musicians on West 46th Street at 10 a.m. for marathon sessions that stretched into the early morning. These recordings featured a core group of John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, Danny Thompson, Michael Ray, Tyrone Hill, Craig Harris, Luqman Ali, and Samarai Celestial, alongside rotating contributors, including guitarists Skeeter McFarland and Taylor Richardson, as well as bassist Victor Sproles and a young Knoël Scott on saxophone and vocals.

Voyage focuses on his late works, all composed while surrounded by nature, and Avdeeva has recorded them at the rustic Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana, against the serene backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains. A pianist of fiery temperament and virtuosity, Avdeeva plays with power, conviction, and sensibility, having won over audiences all over the world. The music of Scottish late-Romantic Sir Alexander Mackenzie is now becoming much better known thanks to the earlier Hyperion recording of his orchestral music, the reception of which had the critics scratching their heads wondering why such attractive music remained neglected for so long. 'Another hugely enjoyable Hyperion rescue act' was how Gramophone received this record, issued a year ago.

Naxos have stepped in enterprisingly and chosen a programme that is not only most attractive in its own right, but which also includes the key items used in the fascinating film about the conjectural relationship between Marin Marais and his reclusive mentor, Sainte-Colombe (Tous les matins du monde). Spectre de la Rose consists of a first-rate group of young players, led by Alison Crum, who plays in a dignified but austere style which at first seems cool by which is very effective in this repertoire. Le Badinage is perhaps a little stiff and unsmiling, but the key item, Marais’s eloquent lament for his teacher, Tombeau pour Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe, is restrained and touching. Good, bright, forward recording, vividly declaiming the plangent viola da gamba timbre.
