When Aisha Badru started making music roughly a decade ago, the soulful singer-songwriter was thoughtful but also shy and hesitant. Her debut album Pendulum (2018) was a melancholic, sometimes fiery, musing on life’s highs and lows. In an industry that thrives on bravado and affectation, even after all her success, Aisha still presents herself as introspective and understated, but what has changed is that she tries to do everything with purpose. This, she chalks up to music’s life-changing impact on her, or “rewiring my mind,” as she likes to put it.

In 1967, Nancy Sinatra would continue her artistic ascent into the pop stratosphere with the James Bond You Only Live Twice theme song, the groovy technicolor television special, Movin' With Nancy, recording one of the most beloved duets of all time, "Some Velvet Morning," and a cross-country pilgrimage to the center of the country music scene. Nancy traveled to Nashville to cut her fifth album at RCA Studios, where many of the greatest country songs of all time were recorded. On Country, My Way, Nancy fuses her own personal style with country music, resulting in a new hybrid sound. Producer Lee Hazlewood called it "hippie-billy." While many people get credit for pioneering the contemporary country sound, like many milestones of the 1960s, Nancy was one of the first. Equal parts strong, sultry, and savvy, Nancy Sinatra has long been ahead of her time-both in her choices as an artist and as a businesswoman. Unapologetically, she established her own path early on and paved the way for decades of female artists to come-all while firmly maintaining control over her career, her image, and her music. Musical messages from Oslo, New York, Basel and Lugano – recorded between 2018 and 2022 - are juxtaposed and recombined on an absorbing recording that features Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen solo and in a series of duets . With such partners as Craig Taborn, Chris Potter, Sinikka Langeland and Jorge Rossy, the musical frame of reference is very broad. Elements from Langeland’s’s archaic-sounding folk to Potter’s post-Coltrane saxophone and Taborn’s whirlwind modernist piano each find their place in a project that implies new threads of connectivity, new creative relationships. The album was completed and mixed by Strønen and producer Manfred Eicher at Bavaria Musikstudios in Munich in February 2023.

Taking Turns, recorded in New York’s Avatar Studio a decade ago, finds Danish guitarist Jakob Bro joined by a multi-generational cast of improvisers, highly distinctive players all. Lee Konitz, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran and Thomas Morgan lend their energies to a session that bypasses conventions of the “all-star” band and puts the emphasis on teamwork. Bro’s space-conscious music encourages fresh responses: an atmospheric hint, or a fragment of gentle melody, opening up new trails to explore. “My compositions are about catching a glimpse of a feeling, sketching it down and then unfolding it as we record”, said Jakob Bro at the time.

The album is a mix of own songs and Christmas classics that Gaebel interprets in his own way. The album will include a total of 13 tracks and 4 bonus tracks and will appear as a CD, vinyl, and box/fan bundle. Do They Know It’s Christmas? is a single by Band Aid, a charity supergroup founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. To commemorate 40 years since the original recording, a newly compiled 1CD format will raise vital funds for the Band Aid Trust.

This smoking organ trio recording is a first for guitarist Larry Coryell and a return to his roots. With the innovative young Hammond B-3 organist Sam Yahel and the versatile, reliably swinging drummer Paul Wertico, the guitar great breathes new life into six familiar jazz pieces, such as "Impressions", "Come Rain or Come Shine" and "Embraceable You" while also showcasing his inimitable fleet-fingered facility on three original compositions.

The boastful title is no exaggeration; this is a welcome return for the classic Chicago blues sideman, who, primarily because of the misfortune of his music being exploited by other musicians, took a self-imposed retirement for nearly 30 years. It's especially rewarding since Williams – whose work you hear on early Howlin' Wolf, Otis Spann, Bo Diddley, Billy Boy Arnold (who guests here) sides – hadn't played a lick during that time, keeping his guitar stashed under his bed. He sounds like he never put the instrument away on this album, the first cohesive disc under his own name ever. Aided by comparative youngsters Tinsley Ellis, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Rusty Zinn, along with a 21-year-old Sean Costello, Williams holds the spotlight like the pro his is. Though well into his sixties when this was recorded in 2001, he sounds remarkably vibrant, completely confident, and totally in his element.

In 2002, Regina Spektor was in the midst of a creative explosion. She found herself writing so many songs that she was unable to keep track of them. Her friend Joe Mendelson noticed she was forgetting some entirely, and offered to archive everything she had written that year. After Regina recorded dozens of songs, one take each, they decided to pick twelve and make them into an album. And so, Songs was born. The record includes the original versions of “Samson” and “Ne Me Quitte Pas”, later re-recorded on Begin to Hope and What We Saw From The Cheap Seats, respectively. These early recordings have now been expertly remastered by Bob Ludwig right in time for their 22nd birthday! Playable for the time ever outside of a handmade CD-R, the album will be released via streaming, CD and vinyl.
