The man (and the band) who first brought shock rock to the masses, Alice Cooper became one of the most successful and influential acts of the '70s with their gritty but anthemic hard rock and a live show that delivered a rock & roll chamber of horrors, thrilling fans and cultivating outrage from authority figures (which made fans love them all the more). The name Alice Cooper originally referred to both the band and its lead singer (born Vincent Furnier).

Luca Flores (Palermo 1956 - Montevarchi 1995), was Italian jazz pianist and composer. Born in Palermo in 1956, he began playing the piano at 5 years. After traveling around the world because of the work of his father, the young Luca lost his dear mother Jolanda in a car accident; this event profoundly marked his life. Luca played with great musicians of his era: Chet Baker, Dave Holland, Massimo Urbani, Tullio de Piscopo, Lee Konitz, Bruno Tommaso, Paolo Fresu, Furio di Castri, Steve Grossman, Kenny Wheeler, Tony Scott, David Murray….

Hugely positive and sometimes crushingly sentimental, Germany's Mark 'Oh (Marko Albrecht) is part of a long line of German musicians who threw down the mantle of rock amateurism in order to embrace his country's post-rave mainstream dance. After disbanding his first guitar outfit, Line Up, 'Oh began as a DJ in 1990 and worked his way up to production with the 1993 limited release of "Randy – Never Stop That Feeling," a cheery, helium-sampled single that found its way to the top of Germany's charts for half a year after its re-release. Subsequent singles furthered 'Oh's light Super Mario Brothers trance style and his three albums – 1995's Never Stop That Feeling, 1996's Magic Power, and 1999's Rebirth – showed an increase in guest appearances and unusual covers, such as reworkings of Visage's "Fade to Grey" and Nick Kamen's "I Promised Myself." A premature Best Of collection was released in 2001.

The Quatuor Ébène timed this round-the-world Beethoven cycle to coincide with Beethoven's 250th birthday in 2020, beginning a worldwide tour and fortunately completing it before the outbreak of the pandemic in that year. The cycle was recorded in Philadelphia, Vienna, Tokyo, São Paolo, Melbourne, Nairobi, and finally Paris. CD buyers get a combination of travelogue and set of work descriptions, but it's not clear that the performances were influenced in any way by the globetrotting. Once upon a time in Algeria… a streetwise teenage boy started playing piano in the bars of Oran’s Jewish Quarter. It was 1942 and American GIs were in town bringing with them the sounds of Boogie-Woogie, Jazz and Cuban rhythms. Maurice El Médioni was that boy, soaking up those musical influences and, adding French chanson, Andalusian and Arabic styles to the mix, growing to become one of the pioneers of Algerian Raï music, playing for some of the biggest names of the golden era and his influence acknowledged by the stars of today such as Khaled and Rachid Taha. Now, with a band featuring Salamat’s Mahmoud Fadl and the Klezmatics’ David Krakauer and Frank London, the man is back in the spotlight at the Café Oran.
