The performance on 18 May, the anniversary of Mahler's death, was attended by his granddaughter, Marina Mahler.

Kind of a minor league version of the Doors, Clear Light were a West Coast phenomenon, and although they didn't last too long, were an interesting group. A very good slice of Los Angeles psychedelia, Clear Light were a six-piece band that combined folk, rock, psychedelia, and even a touch of classical to their sound. The end result, though, is a little ponderous and pretentious, but strangely listenable. The big hit off this album (produced by Paul Rothchild and engineered by Bruce Botnick) was "Mr. Blue," a psychedelic folk song written by Tom Paxton. It's over six-minutes long and a bit overbaked, but it does have an odd appeal. The finer moments are guitarist Bob Seal's psychedelic folk-rock songs, namely "With All in Mind" and "They Who Have Nothing."

This classic 1972 album on Elektra by John Kongos has Queen/Cars director Roy Thomas Baker remixing superb production by Gus Dudgeon, the man who created many an Elton John hit. Elton sidemen Ray Cooper, Caleb Quaye, Dave Glover, Roger Pope, Sue (Glover) and Sunny (Leslie) – pretty much the crew from John's 1971 epic Madman Across the Water – are all excellent here. But this album has more to offer than the solo records by Kiki Dee and Bernie Taupin, which also proliferated around the same time. Though he never made it to Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits in the U.S.A., there were three minor splashes on this disc: "Tokoloshe Man," "Jubilee Cloud," and "He's Gonna Step on You Again." The totally original sound – producer Dudgeon on "asses jawbone," bicycle bell, maracas, and Mike Noble playing the "clapper board" – build a texture one didn't hear on Elton John records.

In 1735, Porpora challenged Handel in London with Polifemo, a work that still resonates today as a vibrant ode to triumphant love. On the bewitching shores of Sicily, Galatea falls in love with the mortal Acis. This pure passion arouses the fierce jealousy of the Cyclops Polifemo, whose rage threatens to sweep everything away. But the unexpected arrival of Ulysses and the intrigues hatched by Calypso weave a complex web where gods and mortals clash. Carried by a constellation of exceptional soloists and conducted by Stefan Plewniak, this opera masterfully weaves together the legacy of a baroque golden age and the timeless power of myth.

Designed as a companion to Bruce Springsteen's 2016 memoir Born to Run, Chapter & Verse provides something of an aural autobiography, tracing Springsteen's development from a Jersey garage rocker into one of the great American songwriters. Springsteen compiled the 18-track disc himself, intending his selection to mirror the themes in his book, so he balances epics with intimate miniatures since both kinds of songs can capture his quests for deliverance and escape. He alternates his well-known anthems ("Born to Run," "Badlands," "Born in the USA"), with a few other popular singles ("Brilliant Disguise," "The Rising") and a host of deep cuts, all of which tend to downplay both his romantic and hard-rocking sides.

In 2000, Britain's RCA Camden line mounted an extensive Harry Nilsson reissue campaign, remastering the original albums, offering bonus tracks, and combining the LPs into two-fers where possible. His first two records were issued as part of a double disc set, with the first disc devoted to the two original albums and the second containing his remixed, re-re-recorded consolidation of the two, Aerial Pandemonium Ballet, plus four unreleased tracks, all of high quality. The remix album remains a bit bewildering and all the more so in this context, when it's possible to A-B it with the superior originals. And that's why this is worth seeking out for the curious and the faithful: the debut will still convert, and when you're converted, it's hard not to want to find all the differences between the first two and the remix record.

The long-awaited debut album from bassist-composer Thomas Morgan is a lush, layered journey through ambient textures and open improvisation. Featuring an all-star cast—Bill Frisell, Craig Taborn, Ambrose Akinmusire, Immanuel Wilkins, Henry Threadgill, Dan Weiss, and Gerald Cleaver—the record is both spacious and intricate, with Morgan’s own virtual instrument WOODS shaping its organic feel. The inclusion of poet Gary Snyder’s voice adds another dimension to this environmental soundscape. Around You Is A Forest is co-produced by David Breskin and Jakob Bro and represents a bold statement from one of jazz’s most revered collaborators stepping fully into the spotlight.

The New Winter Songbook project is a new collection of twenty-one songs reflecting contemporary experiences of and attitudes towards the winter season from composers spanning a range of experiences and backgrounds. Many, though not all, are settings of secular texts. Whilst more traditional winter themes do recur within the songs –those of cold, loss, stillness, grief and darkness – those of belief, faith, and hope, offer an emotional counterbalance. Each individual composer approaches and explores these themes from their own perspective, lending their voice to a musical tapestry, expressing what it means to reflect upon and celebrate the season of winter today. The songs are to be published by Hal Leonard as an anthology in November 2025.

Cardboard sleeve (mini LP) reissue from Peter, Paul and Mary featuring 2012 remastering, using the original master tape. Includes a description and lyrics. Part of a eleven-album Peter, Paul and Mary cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "Peter, Paul And Mary I", "Moving", "In The Wind", "Peter, Paul And Mary in Concert", "A Song Will Rise", "See What Tomorrow Brings", "The Peter, Paul And Mary Album", "Album 1700", "In Japan", "Late Again", and "Peter, Paul And Mommy". The most popular folk group of the 1960s, Peter, Paul and Mary in later decades have also proved themselves to be among the most durable music acts in history. Their longevity dwarfs that of the Weavers, while the fact that the trio continues to be associated with a major record label (Warner Bros.) after decades in the business sets them apart from rivals like the Kingston Trio and the Brothers Four. Then again, perhaps it isn't so surprising – Peter, Paul and Mary's roots run deeper than almost any other folk act one might care to name, while their appeal crosses audience lines that other acts couldn't (and can't) even approach.

In Spain between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries the term tiento (or tento in Portuguese) denoted an instrumental form akin to the Italian ricercare. Whereas in Italy the ricercari were written mainly for keyboard instruments (harpsichord, clavichord, organ) or for the lute, in Spain the tiento was cultivated not only by keyboard players but also – very extensively – by performers on the vihuela.

Swimming by Moonlight is a new Chet Baker album that draws from previously unreleased material recorded near the end of his life. From 1986–1987, Chet traveled and worked with the photographer and filmmaker Bruce Weber on a project that would become their Oscar-nominated documentary Let's Get Lost [1988]. During this period, Chet performed in Cannes, France and recorded sessions at Studio Davout in Paris and Sage and Sound Studio in Hollywood.
