A key figure in the hard bop era, he penned timeless jazz standards like "I Remember Clifford," "Whisper Not," and "Killer Joe." Golson's work was pivotal in bridging complex harmonies with lyrical expressiveness, and his role in The Jazztet and collaborations with Art Blakey and Clifford Brown helped shape modern jazz. This collection brings together some the finest recordings Benny Golson produced as leader or co-leader during his long career, and contains eight complete original albums, spread across four compact discs, all in superior remastered audio quality. Serving as both a perfect introduction to the work of this musical giant and a welcome reminder of the man's finest output, this delightful set will remain among the finest collections of this jazz master's work.

Intrada presents the long-sought after expanded edition of The Secret of NIMH (1982). While Intrada's previous edition was slightly expanded, it still came up short around 8 minutes of score due to missing elements. Since that previous release, MGM was able to locate the original 35mm stems that included their own stereo audio music tracks of everything as heard in the film. CD Producer Chris Malone took these new elements and blended them with the rest of the score to create the expanded program including all the bits for which collectors have been pining. As with Intrada's First Blood album, the first disc presents the score in film order, removing much of the album assembly that Goldsmith had prepared for the original album. Disc 2 includes Goldsmith's original album program as he assembled it to preserve all the creative decisions that he made. It's never sounded better. The CD features new cover art by Stéphane COËDEL and an additional Tech Talk by Roger Feigelson.

This album pairs "Latin Goes Ska" and "The Birth of Ska," two essential works in the history of ska. Enjoy a veritable treasure trove of Jamaican music, brimming with the creativity and energy of Jamaican music. "Latin Goes Ska" begins with "Latin Goes Ska" by Tommy McCook & The Skatalites. Released in 1964 on Duke Reid's prestigious Treasure Isle label, this pioneering album blends Jamaican ska with the rhythms and melodies of Latin American music, and continues to captivate music fans to this day. Leader Tommy McCook was a saxophonist who returned to the United States after a stint in jazz. His influence is evident throughout the album, with sophisticated horn arrangements and jazzy improvisations seamlessly blended with the upbeat, flowing Latin groove. This cross-cultural blend truly demonstrates the richness of the ska genre. Furthermore, this album features the talented members of the Skatalites. Popular singers such as Justin Hines & the Dominoes and Clive & Naomi also appear as guests, adding a diverse range of textures to the album. The Skatalites were at the peak of their creative potential at the time, and their energy and skill are clearly evident on this album.

Anyone listening to this album for the first time would be forgiven for doing a double-take and checking the cover art to make sure they had indeed purchased Paradise Lost's One Second instead of a Depeche Mode record. This 1997 release displays an astounding sonic evolution when compared to the group's previous release, 1995's Draconian Times, and nothing remains of their early death/doom metal origins. Singer Nick Holmes has permanently retired his once-trademark growl, and the guitars, though still dominant, make room for ambient keyboard melodies as well as the occasional drum machine. "Say Just Words" alternates hypnotic guitar-chugging with a memorable chorus, while "Soul Courageous" would fit in perfectly on any Sisters of Mercy record. "Blood of Another" and "Mercy" are other bright spots, and though fans of early Paradise Lost should approach with caution, there's no denying the quality of this radical but impressive departure.

Band on the Run is generally considered to be Paul McCartney's strongest solo effort. The album was also his most commercially successful, selling well and spawning two hit singles, the multi-part pop suite of the title track and the roaring rocker "Jet." On these cuts and elsewhere, McCartney's penchant for sophisticated, nuanced arrangements and irrepressibly catchy melodic hooks is up to the caliber he displayed in the Beatles, far surpassing the first two Wings releases, Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway. The focus found in Band on the Run may have to do with the circumstances of its creation: two former members quit the band prior to recording, leaving McCartney, wife Linda, and guitarist Denny Laine to complete the album alone (with Paul writing, producing, and playing most of the instruments himself)…

More information: By 1984, Oldfield had ventured into new musical territories with the releases of Five Miles Out (1982) and Crises (1983), blending his signature instrumental compositions with more accessible, pop-oriented tracks. His 1984 album Discovery continued this shift, incorporating rock and electronic elements with a focus on catchy melodies and synthesiser-driven arrangements. The album featured the hit single “To France”, a track that became a fan favourite and highlighted Oldfield's growing ability to cross musical boundaries.

As Gerald Heard's liner notes point out, it's difficult to decide whether Chet Baker was a trumpet player who sang or a singer who played trumpet. When the 24-year-old California-based trumpeter started his vocal career in 1954, his singing was revolutionary; as delicate and clear as his trumpet playing, with a similarly bright and vibrato-free tone, Baker simply didn't sound like any previous jazz singer. His first vocal session, recorded in February 1954 and covering tracks seven through 14 of this disc, is so innocent-sounding it's like cub reporter Jimmy Olsen had started a new career as a jazz singer. The album's first six tracks, recorded in July 1956, are even more milk and cookies, thanks in no small part to syrupy material like Frank Loesser's "I've Never Been in Love Before" and Donaldson/Kahn's drippy "My Buddy"…
