Back in 1964, saxophonist Stan Getz made one of those perfect albums. He teamed up with famed Brazilian songwriters and guitarists, Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and delivered one of the best records in his career: Gezt/Gilberto (Verve, 1964). The combination of the wistfully vibrant bossa nova and the sensual saxophone sound of Getz proved to be irresistible. History has a way of repeating itself and now it is time for yet another crucial meeting between a group of Brazilian musicians and an American saxophonist. Harry Allen could be considered one of the most prominent heirs to the sound of Getz, so it was only a matter of time before he would find the ideal partner to make an album with a perfect Brazilian sound. In fact, his partner found him. In the elaborate notes to the album Something About Jobim, producer and bassist, Rodolfo Stroeter, tells the story of the album. When his good friend, record producer Søren Friis of Stunt Records, gave him a bunch of records to listen to, one of them especially caught his attention.

"Borderland" is the first Amorphis album produced in collaboration with Danish producer Jacob Hansen. Before that, we had made three amazing records at Jens Bogren’s studio. During the planning phase of the project, we strongly felt that it was time to explore something new and see what working with a different producer might bring to the table.
Amorphis has a very distinctive sound and our own way of making music. Having six strong personalities in the band naturally brings its own challenges to the production process, especially for the producer. Jacob was chosen for a couple of key reasons: he has worked with an impressively diverse range of artists, and he’s an incredibly calm, creative, and idea-driven producer…

This deluxe Medicine Show reissue arrives as an expansive 4xCD box set, collecting 42 Dream Syndicate tracks that span rare live recordings, radio sessions, rehearsals, demos, and previously unreleased material from 1983 to 1984. Alongside it, the original album returns as a standalone LP, all via Down There Records (distributed by Fire Records).

How crazy must a band be to recompose and record the work of Jimi Hendrix – a man known for his blisteringly loud, amplified guitars – using only acoustic instruments in a serene church? And yet, it made complete sense to HOT (Het Orgel Trio) to go to church and let Berry van Berkun hit the pipe organ. For Jimi Hendrix wanted to literally feel the sound vibrations in his body, and the pipe organ does just that: being a roaring sound machine of unparalleled dimensions.

This compilation is a brilliant survey of some of the early recorded work showcasing Bob Corritore‘s dedication to recording the real-deal blues by it’s originators. The sixteen tracks were recorded between 1984 and 2007, and include many remixed and previously unreleased gems. Most of the artists featured on this album are no longer with us, but their recordings will live on forever. Bob always had his eye on the prize and took great artists into the studio whenever possible. Once he opened the Rhythm Room in 1991 he realized that there would be a pipeline of amazing artists coming through to play at his nightclub.
