Paul McCartney must not only have been conscious of his slipping commercial fortunes, he must have realized that his records hadn't been treated seriously for years, so he decided to make a full-fledged comeback effort with Flowers in the Dirt. His most significant move was to write a series of songs with Elvis Costello, some of which appeared on Costello's own Spike and many of which surfaced here. These may not be epochal songs, the way many wished them to be, but McCartney and Costello turn out to be successful collaborators, spurring each other toward interesting work.

The ensemble Musica Antiqua Roma specializes in the vast and partly forgotten repertoire of the music by Roman composers from the 17th and 18th centuries. Here they turn their attention to Corelli and his contemporaries, including Sonatas by Corelli himself Carbonelli, Mossi, Viconti, Castrucci, Locatelli and Montanari. Many of the works here are world premiere recordings.

Inon Barnatan presents Rachmaninoff Reflections, offering some of the composer’s most cherished piano works, including his Moments musicaux, Prelude in G-Sharp Minor and Barnatan’s own arrangement of the Vocalise. Centrepiece of this project is Barnatan’s breathtaking new piano arrangement of the Symphonic Dances. Inon Barnatan is one of the most admired pianists of his generation (New York Times). His Pentatone discography consists of Time Traveler’s Suite (2021), Beethoven’s complete cello sonatas with Alisa Weilerstein (2022), as well as complete recordings of Beethoven’s piano concertos together with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Alan Gilbert (2019 and 2020).

GRAMMY Award-winner for Best Opera Recording, the late Kaija Saariaho's much-admired second opera, Adriana Mater, was recorded at Davies Symphony Hall in June 2023, just days after its composer's untimely passing. In its review, the New York Times wrote, "Saariaho's delicately consoling music stares down the worst of the world and says: the only way forward is grace."
