Blues is a posthumous compilation album by Jimi Hendrix, released April 26, 1994, on MCA Records. The album contains eleven blues songs recorded by Hendrix between 1966 and 1970. Out of these eleven, six were previously unreleased. The tracks include seven of Hendrix's compositions along with covers of famous blues songs such as "Born Under a Bad Sign" and "Mannish Boy". Most of the album's material consists of leftover studio tapes that Hendrix might have never intended to release. This collection was re-released again in October 2010 as part of the Hendrix family's project to remaster Jimi's discography.

Trumpeter Chris Botti drops the synthesizers and drum loops of his previous effort, Thousand Kisses Deep, for a more elegant and traditional sound on When I Fall in Love. While Thousand Kisses Deep maximized Botti's penchant for mixing perfect pop songs with his Miles Davis-influenced jazz style, it nonetheless featured many of the electronic and processed sounds predictable on modern smooth jazz releases. By eschewing such "go to" pop-jazz production techniques as drum machines and synthesized strings in favor of the real instruments here, Botti ironically sounds utterly groundbreaking on what is ultimately a straight-ahead orchestral jazz album. While nowhere near as improvisationally adventurous as its predecessors, When I Fall in Love is still a revelation in the tradition of Sketches of Spain, Clifford Brown With Strings, and Wynton Marsalis' Hot House Flowers. Mixing standards and contemporary pop tunes all in a straight-ahead style, Botti gives his minimalist Miles-ian horn sound a chance to breath and be enjoyed on its own.

"Hummingbird Highway," the title track of Dar Williams' 13th album, was inspired by a romantically-named road that runs along the Maya Mountains of Belize—and a partly imagined story about a child whose parent brings gifts back from work trips as an attempt to make up for lost time. "Sometimes you go away in a car. Sometimes you go away with your door closed," Williams has said. "I've been the child and the parent." She sings with rich detail about what the kid sees: "You're laying out the treasures you brought for me/ Cinnamon bark from a cinnamon tree/ And a stone that you saw/ Clear at the bottom of the sea." This is joyous Americana, its fleet rhythm like the flap of a hummingbird's wings, but with an emotional tug as the young narrator also recognizes their parent's guilt for needing to be in two places at the same time. "You say it's the older you feel, it's the older I get," she sings. "Your highest of highs and your deepest regret."

Chart-topping Matt Bianco is back with album #17 “Masquerader”. Recorded in Ghana in 1981, Mick Fleetwood's solo debut reveals more diversity and depth of feeling than any of Fleetwood Mac's multi-platinum monsters. Six of the tracks are not overt attempts at worldbeat, instead using a variety of West African musicians as sidemen, sidewomen, and, in the case of drum ensemble Ebaali Gbiko, sidechildren. Of these six tracks, several stand out. "Walk a Thin Line," written by Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, is an infectious pop song blending Adjo Group's enchanting backing vocals with guest George Harrison's lush 12-string and slide guitars. Another Fleetwood Mac veteran, Peter Greenbaum (aka Peter Green), accompanies a multinational percussion section for a remake of his "Rattlesnake Shake," originally found on Then Play On. Even the Buddy Holly classic "Not Fade Away" gets supercharged with a percussion ensemble made up of Fleetwood on drums and Lord Tiki and Adjo Group on hand drums and percussion. The West African tracks that make up the remainder of the album are pure pleasure.

For their expanded 2002 reissue of Randy Newman's classic Sail Away album, Rhino/Reprise unearthed five previously unissued gems. Of these, arguably the most notable is the studio version of "Maybe I'm Doing It Wrong," originally released on the stop-gap Randy Newman Live album; it was left off the album because Newman and his producers felt that he didn't capture the song but, decades later, this sounds every bit as good, if not better, than the issued live version. Of the remaining four bonus tracks, only "Let It Shine" isn't an alternate version or demo, and while it's not quite up to the high standards of the other songs on Sail Away, it's still quite strong. If the early version of "Dayton, Ohio – 1903" isn't radically different, the early version of "Sail Away" is – bouncy and bluesy, its humor more apparent. Finally, the demo of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" is a little rawer than the album version and wholly welcome. Though these five bonus tracks are the main attraction for Randy Newman fans, the remastered sound, the liner notes by David Wild, introduction by Randy, and rare photos make this another wonderful reissue in Rhino's line of Newman expanded editions.

Renowned International / Canadian Holly Cole is set to release her 13th studio album, Dark Moon, on January 24th. Teaming up with her long-time live performance partners, along with additional musicians to create rich harmonies and layers, this album is a true ensemble project that highlights her signature style. The ensemble that Holly has brought together to help create and perform on Dark Moon includes long time live performance / recording mates, Aaron Davis (piano), George Koller (bass), Davide Direnzo (drums) and John Johnson (saxophone). Add to that the brilliance of sometime accompanist’s including guitar master and provocateur Kevin Breit and on harmonica two-time Grammy winner and original member of Bella Fleck and the Flecktones, Howard Levy and finally the wonderful three-part 1950’s Nashville style harmonies of the Good Lovelies. Together they define the absolute best in “ensemble playing”!

All tracks featured have been carefully restored from the original masters. The band these Brummie boys were fated to become were always an exceptional group, even in their early years as Earth, when as teenagers they formed a blues band. Neatly timed in the mid-1960s, as the blues boom was in decline. Nevertheless, they persevered, widening their repertoire, until, name-change they became the most important and most-copied of all Heavy Metal bands. They single-handedly invented the style that influenced and inspired not only so many bands, but also those dozens of sub-metal styles that now abound - Black Metal, Death Metal, Gothic Metal, Nu Metal and so many more. The band's subsequent worldwide success over the last fifty odd years has, unsurprisingly, drawn attention away from just how fine a band they were at the outset. This release will most certainly address that position. These early recordings were made by the band, still known as Earth, who had already built an enviable reputation and a veritable army of fans with their high-powered, blues-rooted, red hot and rocking performances. These recordings accurately chart their development of their repertoire as they edged their way towards those heavy metal anthems that were soon to captivate the world of Rock. All tracks featured have been carefully restored from the original masters, untouched for over 50 years, and presented here for the very first time in all their glory

Pandemonic Incantations is the third studio album by Polish extreme metal band Behemoth. The album was recorded during August and September 1997, at Selani Studio and was mixed in October 1997. The album was then released in 1998 by Solistitium Records, whilst Behemoth were still in their period of transition from black metal to blackened death metal. A remastered digipak version was released by Metal Mind Records with six bonus tracks, including five live tracks recorded during the European tour in Toulouse, France, on 27 February 1999 and a studio version of With Spell of Inferno (Mefisto). It is known that on the original version of the album, the eighth track is followed by 57 tracks of silence. The outro is on track number 66.
