This came out in 1976 on Blue Thumb and it seems that was never made it to CD, which is a shame. This is a great place to start, especially if you want to hear the more soulful side of the Crusaders. The Golden Years, also a compilation, is (or was) on CD. It covers a lot of the same ground as Best Of, but also goes back further in time to their jazzier period.
Jazz-dance group formed in Houston, Texas in 1956, settling on the name The Jazz Crusaders in 1961 (shortened to The Crusaders ten years later). Their best-known hit "Street Life" was responsible for bringing guest vocalist Randy Crawford to the public attention - the group's line-up at that time comprised founder members Wilton Felder (tenor sax, bass), Nesbert "Stix" Hooper (percussion) and Joseph Sample (keyboards) with Larry Carlton (guitar).
