Robillard, both a good blues guitarist and knowledgeable swing player, displays his rocking side on this '88 date. There are flashier solos, more uptempo cuts, and an aggressive, frenetic quality that's missing on Robillard's jazz-oriented releases.

Duke Robillard is an award-winning American blues, roots rock, and jazz guitarist. His warm, silvery, vintage sound and clean playing style evoke the entire history of blues, jump R&B, swing, and proto rock & roll. A globally renowned guitarist, Robillard is a singer, songwriter, bandleader, producer, and a first-call session player. A founding member of Roomful of Blues, he cut the roots-rocking Duke Robillard and the Pleasure Kings in 1983. He replaced Jimmie Vaughan in the Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1989 and remained through 1993. Robillard released three albums for Virgin's Point Blank imprint during the mid-'90s, including 1997's Dangerous Place. He finished the decade touring with his group and playing on records by Eddy Clearwater, Scott Hamilton, and Jay McShann. The guitarist signed with Canada's Stony Plain for 1999's Herb Ellis collaboration Conversations in Swing Guitar. Robillard toured constantly yet continued to issue a string of widely celebrated albums, including 2004's Blue Mood: The Songs of T-Bone Walker. After 2007's jump double-disc A World Full of Blues, he returned to jazz with 2008's A Swinging Session with Duke Robillard. 2015's The Acoustic Blues & Roots of Duke Robillard won a Blues Music Award in the "Best Acoustic Album" category. In 2017 he issued Duke Robillard and His Dames of Rhythm, a collection of collaborations with female vocalists including Maria Muldaur, Catherine Russell, Madeleine Peyroux, and others, and followed it with Ear Worms in 2019.
