Tangerine Dream - Tangerine Tree [complete] Part 5 of 8: vol. 49 - vol. 60 of 92

Tangerine Tree was a project from 2002 through 2006 that was dedicated to the collection, preservation and distribution of unreleased concerts and other audio material by the band Tangerine Dream. The creators of the Tangerine Tree project received permission from Tangerine Dream to release the collection on a strict non-profit basis. Several of the Tangerine Tree volumes have been used as the basis for official Tangerine Dream releases. The project collected just under 300 hours of material (291:39:26).

Material was collected from audience recordings, soundboard recordings, recordings of radio and TV transmissions and in some cases the purchase of studio masters. Only recordings of a high quality and a unique nature were considered for the core Tangerine Tree volumes. These recordings were professionally re-mastered and released on CD-R and accompanied by high quality artwork for the CD labels and case liners.

The sixth set of the Tangerine Tree fan project starts with a brilliant and complete audience recording with a sound quality that might even be better than that of the FM broadcast of this unique performance. Tangerine Tree Volume 49: Berlin 1990 was released about the same time as the official album East which was released as a single CD only, featuring only one the five encores. At least three of these missing tracks were made available to a small number of fans on the limited East (Bonus Disc) release. Anyway, the Tangerine Tree release features the complete concert including all encores, so it is a nice counterpart to the official album.

Tangerine Tree Volume 52: Cologne 1972 is another highlight of this fan project, presenting a totally unknown recording from 1972. Originally a mono recording, the music has nothing to do with the already known Cologne 25 Nov 1972 show (wich is planned to be released in future volume of this series), although it is vertainly from the same period considering the instruments used. It contains two long tracks, and it's not really sure if it has been really recording during that show as this would have been one of the longest TD shows ever.

The music is brillant, an improvised cosmic classic which perfectly fits into the Zeit and Atem period. The sound quality is very good, given the age of the recording which seems to be taken directly from a studio session or a live soundboard.

Tangerine Tree Volume 54: The Keep does not present a live concert like most of the other volumes of this series but unreleased soundtrack material from the 1983 movie The Keep in an as yet unheard sound quality, taken from a first generation copy of the studio master tape. The original soundtrack has never been officially released in its original form, though there are several bootlegs (including The Keep) featuring original material. The officially (though extremly rare) TDI release of The Keep (1997) contains mostly re-recorded and tangentized music material different from the music originally used for the movie.
