Comedy Of Errors are one of the longest running bands of the new wave of Progressive Rock, formed in 1984 in Glasgow. After a few moments of hiatus since 2011, they have resumed their musical activity permanently. "Time Machine" was released on September 23, 2022 and contains 6 long tracks. The opening track “The Knight Returns” starts off immediately strong with an elaborate and accelerated rhythm section. Interweaving guitar and synths drive the melodies, the tempo changes are a real asset and the vocals are dynamic and expressive. The band alternates energetic passages with softer ones, with solo inserts and refined textures, with a sound with a modern imprint that traces the sounds of Neo Prog…

Scottish proggers Comedy Of Errors have been on something of a productive roll of late, since the thankful retreat of the Covid curtain of doom. This new 2023 release comes hot on the heels of the previous album Time Machine, only a year or so later, and shows a band absolutely bursting with ideas, as any thoughts of the two albums being almost like a double album released in two halves proves way off the mark. Time Machine was an absolute highlight in the band’s catalogue, it must be said, and certainly up their with their finest releases, but what it did not try to do was to redefine the parameters of the band’s sound and musical identity in any way. Threnody For A Dead Queen, on the other hand, does exactly that…

Having taken several decades to release their first album, "Fanfare & Fantasy" is Comedy of Error's second album in as many years. While "Disobey" was a landmark album of "neo-prog", "Fanfare and Fantasy" takes a more symphonic approach, the nine magnificent tracks here being carefully crafted masterpieces of the genre. While there is a wonderful familiarity in the style of the music, it is actually rather difficult to offer comparisons or to cite influences. At times there is a Pendragon feel in the lush keyboards, the superb lead guitar solos and indeed in the vocal style. At the same time though, one could mention bands such as Yes, Genesis, Camel etc., but all the while there is something different and refreshing about what we hear that offers genuine excitement.

Comedy Of Errors are a neo-progressive rock band from Scotland who although being together for over 20 years only made their first album four years ago. Spirit is now their third album after releasing Disobey (2011) and Fanfare & Fantasy (2013). And to say it is ambitious would be an understatement. This album really does have everything for the discerning prog listener from soft keyboards to riffing guitars, plenty of Mellotron and great tunes…

Before 2011, this Scottish band was virtually unknown, even by neo-prog scholars. For a band that has been around for a quarter of a century, this might seem quite a bit odd, but for one reason or another, the band broke up back in the 80s before they ever came out with a full length. Finally, this melodic prog group has a full-length album out, and as the saying goes; 'better late than never'.
This is the musical sound most of the famous UK Neo Prog bands have sadly moved away from in recent years. Fortunately for us there are some UK bands like Comedy of Errors who are bringing back this Neo prog era in all its glory…
