Nicholas Simper is an English bass guitarist, who was a co-founding member of Deep Purple and Warhorse. In the 1960s he began his professional career in bands such as Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, The Flower Pot Men, and Lord Sutch's Savages.
The generic hard rock executed by Fandango on their debut album was a few years out of fashion with the times when it appeared at the end of the 1970s. Being out of fashion is not synonymous with being bad, or even irrelevant. It's not metal, despite what the Deep Purple/Warhorse connections might lead you to suspect; in fact, it's a touch laid-back and subdued for this kind of thing. If they had opened for Foreigner, no one would have blinked an eye. Piano and organ are credited to "Neil McCarthur." Neil MacArthur was a pseudonym employed by ex-Zombies singer Colin Blunstone on his first solo singles; so is this keyboardist actually Colin Blunstone? The liner notes don't say. The album was reissued on CD by Angel Air in 1999, in a two-pack that also included their 1980 album, Future Times, and a couple of bonus cuts on each disc.~ Richie Unterberger, All Music
