    British-French multi-instrumentalist Memory Of Jane, aka Maïlé Doremus-Cook (pronounced "Miley"), releases his debut album, Unsinking The Cypress, on Blue Flowers.

    After experimenting with fragmented melodies in his 2023 EP In The Double, the album marks a fuller exploration of Maïlé’s somber yet dynamic soundscapes. Drawing from his roots in jazz and filmmaking, he blends influences from Aphex Twin, Radiohead, and The xx to create atmospheric, emotive tracks.

    The album, co-produced with Oli Bayston and Harvey Grant, evolved from isolated demos into collaborative works, with contributions from various musicians and explores themes of identity, dislocation, and the quest for peace, balancing melancholic moments with playful, experimental textures.

    While the album confronts heavy emotions, it also carries an undercurrent of optimism, with tracks like ‘Praying I Don’t Fall’ and ‘Breathe’ showcasing Maïlé’s ability to find light within dark spaces. The album’s intimate yet expansive sound positions Memory Of Jane as an unpredictable artist, intent on keeping listeners intrigued and inspired by his ever-evolving creativity. Maïlé envisions Unsinking The Cypress as a stepping stone to more experimental work, offering a glimpse of his evolving musical journey.
