Musical-spiritual journey into one's own past Matteo Myderwyk knows what's good for the soul. With his 2021 Warner debut, the album "Notes of Longing," the Dutch composer and pianist has taken up the theme of longing, giving it atmospheric expression in harmony-saturated piano sounds supported by synthesizers. With "A brief nostalgia" Myderwyk continues his musical-spiritual journey into the inner emotional world: It is not melancholy, but the awareness of one's own past that lends the twelve childhood impressions of this album their magic.

In dazzling arrangements for solo piano or keyboard instruments like the harmonium, the toy piano or the synthesizer and with titles like "Nostalgia", "Legacy" or "Long lost friend", the pieces give insights into Matteo Myderwyk's personal space of experience, in which, for example, the church organ still resonates, on which he played as a child in his hometown Oudewater; "vicariously" for this instrument, Myderwyk played parts of the album on the famous organ of St. Bavo Cathedral in Haarlem. Other impressions - pop songs he grew up with, vacations and trips to the countryside - are as much a part of these very personal musical communications as the memory of his niece, who died at an early age, to whom Myderwyk sets a sonic memorial in the most moving track on "A brief nostalgia," "Sarabande for Julia."
