King Creosote - I DES (2023)

King Creosote releases "I DES", his first studio album since 2016 via Domino Records!

They say long live the king and all that, but nothing is ever set in stone. A quarter century after his self-inflicted coronation and self-released debut solo album, Kenny Anderson - DIY pop traveler, restorer of an ancestral home by the sea, squeezebox lothario, fife for life, diamond digger, heartbreaker, and the man, also known as King Creosote - has released over 100 records (if you're guessing relatively conservatively), collaborated with artists like Jon Hopkins, KT Tunstall and Beta Band's Lone Pigeon, and has had his songs covered and performed by artists like Patti Smith and Simple Minds.

Now, despite all that, or perhaps because of it, he has announced a new LP. It's called "I DES." And no, it's not lost on him, so animated by playful lyricism, that the title of his latest release is a simple anagram of "This." But a few things should be kept in mind:
1) "I DES" is a nod to KC's main collaborator this time around - multi-instrumentalist and co-producer Derek O'Neill a.k.a. Des Lawson of Blantyre ("From Scotland With Love" from 2014, "Astronaut Meets Appleman" from 2016); and
2) HRH King Creosote has struggled to find his ending throughout his musical life. The album was mostly written between 2016 and 2020, but nothing is ever that simple: there's something old (trees), something blue (also trees), something borrowed (home tapes and vocals from all eras; lyrics from the distant past), and something new (KC jokes that one possible title for this album was "We All Got Synths for Christmas").

And here is King Creosote: singer, songwriter, pink faker, father of three beautiful daughters. He was born in the winter of 1967. That year floods and blizzards raged, but everything grew and weathered the storm.
