Damian Kostka - Rules for Being Human (2023)

Damian Kostka is one of the few Polish bass players who, while building his own, extremely subtle world of jazz, daringly finds himself in the style of jazz tradition. At the same time, he is close to the playing tradition of Ron Carter and Dave Holland, but equally virtuoso creates a modern sound without losing his artistic charisma. The correctness and precision of sounds places his art at the highest level and is always a guarantee of unquestionable artistry. The session "Rules For Being Human" is an important document of the artistic creation of the bassist and composer, as well as the excellent eloquence of the musicians.

Damian Kostka is a recognized Polish double bassist and bassist, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław and Poznań. He is a laureate of both individual and team awards won at prestigious festivals and competitions (from Jazz nad Odrą and Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa to Krokus Jazz Festival). He studied with jazz luminaries: Ron Carter and Gary Peacock, Dominique di Piazza, Darek Oleszkiewicz. As part of Era Jazzu projects, he has performed and recorded with such jazz stars as saxophonist Chico Freeman, guitarist Stanley Jordan, vocalist Sarah McKenzie, vocalist Vinx de Jon Parette, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. He played with Leszek Możdżer, Michael Rabinovitz, Mike Sternen and Skalpel. Damian Kostka is a musician of Weeżdż Collective, Maciej Kądziela Trio, Acid Grove, Global Schwung Quintet and co-founder of Włodek Pawlik's trio. For the new project, he recruited excellent musicians (with whom he had previously performed and recorded): saxophonist Kuba Marciniak, pianist Jacek Szwaj, trumpeter Cyprian Baszyński and drummer Mateusz Brzostowski. Now with the album "Rules For Being Human" they are building their own perception of jazz. It is a beautiful, artistic showcase of today's Polish jazz.
