One of the most enduring and endleass charms of the music of Brazil is the depth of its variety, by way of influences absorbed over many years. The amalgam of sounds is often a combination of primitive and contemporary, and it is worth mentioning that Brazilians can and still write some of today's most romantic songs. There is a richness in their music which indicates their optimistic view of life and honest dealing with human emotions, which is not only accurate, but admirable.
Yana Purim is the product of such a background, and her singing and writing reflect the wealth of sources which have brought about a Brazilian sound which is truly international. She is a native of Rio de Janeiro, and is a member of a prrominent musical family.
She also that rare individual who has written special Portuguese lyrics for already established compositions by Thad Jones, Mal Waldron, and Chick Corea and is, therefore, considered amusical pioneer. –Felix Grant (WRC Radio, Washington, DC)
