VA - The Late '50s: The Top 10 Collection (1998)
    4CD Set | FLAC+CUE+LOG - 965 MB | Full Scans | MP3 CBR 320 - 435 MB
    Collector's Edition of Original Hit Recordings | Reader's Digest compilation # GCD4-5551~54

They were the most popular songs, the songs you danced and romanced to. Here are 75 original hits by the original artists - the Top Ten hits of each year from 1955 to 1959 - from the greatest guys, gals and groups of that unforgettable era…

Those were the days, the late '50s! Every time you turned the radio dial or passed a jukebox, your favorite tunes were there. They were your songs — they were our songs — the original hits we danced, romanced and fell in love to. In this collection, you'll find not just any hits of the era. Rather, you'll find the 10 biggest hits of each year from 1955 to 1959, the certified favorites of the only critics that count—music fans, just like you and me. who voted for their favorites by buying them in stores, playing them on jukeboxes and requesting them on radio. Here at last are the 10 most memorable hits of each year — the original recordings by the original stars — just the way you remember them. In addition, you'll hear sample songs by the Top 10 male stars (everyone from Elvis Presley and Pat Boone to Chuck Berry and Fats Domino) and the Top 10 female stars (from Patti Page and Peggy Lee to Connie Francis and Georgia Gibbs). As a bonus, we've even added five extra songs at the end to help us remember the era's golden groups, such as The Diamonds, The Four Preps and Buddy Holly and The Crickets. This album is a musical time capsule: the best of the best of the years from 1955 through 1959 - But it's not just an assemblage of dusty, dated "souvenirs in sound". As long as love is a many-splendored thing, kisses are sweeter than wine, there are teenagers in love, dancers get all shook up, there are lonely boys in lonesome towns, couples draw love letters in the sand, folks are singing the blues, there is young love and couples try to rock around the clock … these songs will live. They spoke for our hearts in the late '50s. And they still work today.

    – Gary Theroux, Reader's Digest Senior Music Editor
