    Originally called "Trio Novo" (the New Trio), the group was composed of Teo de Barros (bass and guitar), Heraldo do Monte (seven strings guitar and guitar) and Airto Moreira (drums). The set was created to accompany the singer and songwriter Geraldo Pereira in performances and recordings.
    With the entry of the flutist Hermeto Pascoal, the trio became known as "Quarteto Novo" (the New Quartet). In 1967 the group recorded his only LP: Quarteto Novo. That same year, followed Edu Lobo e Marília Medal presentation of music Ponteio, who won the 3rd Festival de Música Popular Brasileira. The group disbanded in 1969, and the LP was reissued in 1973.
