MPB4 is regarded as one of the best (if not the best) vocal groups of Brazilian popular music. Are 44-year career officer, 40 years with the same training.

The group's formation occurred in mid-1964, when Aquiles, Magro, Ruy and Miltinho integrated the Centro Popular de Cultura, affiliated to the União Nacional dos Estudantes- UNE. Magro and Miltinho were students in the 3rd year of Engineering, Universidade Federal Fluminense - UFF. Both had musical training began in childhood, adolescence Miltinho learned guitar instrumentalist with Jodacil Damascus and Magro had participated in the Sociedade Musical Patápio Silva, and has taught music theory with Eumir Deodato and Isaac Karabtchevisk.

The composition of vocal MPB4 until 1968 was: Ruy, 1st voice: Magro, 2nd; Miltinho, 3rd, and Aquiles, 4th voice. Thereafter, when Aquiles studied Belcanto (opera vocals), his teacher disagreed with their position voices in the quartet and suggested an exchange of positions vocals. So, Miltinho took the 4th voice, and Aquiles, with the 3rd. The exchange remains today and realize that the sound of voices was more harmonic.

For many years they made an informal partnership with Chico Buarque de Hollanda, accompanying him in concerts and recordings. The best example this season is "Roda Viva," 1968.

A long career where there was no ideological or commercial concessions, the MPB4 always enriched mpb with sophisticated arrangements, but digestible, both in the vocal and in instrumental

This album, in 1976, is in my opinion and many other admirers of the group, one of the best of his career. Oddly Philips, Phonogram, Poligram, Universal Music, etc, not reissued until now. The highlights for the title track, "Canto dos Homens," a masterpiece of lyrics combined with a strong music and a memorable instrumental accompaniment.
