"Axion Esti" (in Greek: Αξιον εστί) or in English: "It is truly right" is one of the best selling albums of all time in Greece. The composer, Mikis Theodorakis, describes this work as a "popular oratorio for a Singer, a Chanter (baritone), a Reader (actor), popular instruments, symphonic orchestra and chorus". It is a musical masterpiece, crossroad of four top artists: the composer Mikis Theodorakis, the nobelist Greek poet Odysseas Elitis, the great popular singer Grigoris Bithikotsis and the unforgettable actor Manos Katrakis as "The Reader". Fresh lossless rip and a nice 24p booklet with photos and lyrics, scanned. Enjoy one of the best Theodorakis' albums.
Mikis Theodorakis composed the music in the period 1961-1963 when he was in Paris. He wanted to "marry" symphonic music with the byzantine and the popular music. The cover of the album is a work by the great Greek painter Yiannis Tsarouxis. The first release of the album was at 1964.
