L'orchestre d'hommes-orchestres - Bile Automobile (2017)

Après plus de 2 ans de travail P572 sorts enfin le plus bel et étrange album de l’automne 2017.

BILE AUTOMOBILE? Après quinze années d’exploration musicale et performative autour de l’idée de «musique qui se voit», L’orchestre d’hommes-orchestres a eu l’idée de fabriquer un objet pérenne, qui puisse s’écouter et se manipuler, indépendamment de la présence des performeurs. Bile Automobile est conçu comme une sorte d’encyclopédie non exhaustive de son travail sur le vivant. Il rassemble des œuvres glanées ici et là au fil de ses différents projets, chansons, pièces instrumentales, performances et poésie sonore, ainsi que d’inédites élucubrations sonores.

L’ODHO? Lorsqu’ils fondèrent à Québec en 2002 L’orchestre d’hommes-orchestres, les membres du collectif ne savaient pas qu’ils lançaient les bases d’un véritable chantier des arts vivants. Protéiforme et indiscipliné, le collectif multiplie les collaborations avec des artistes de différents horizons, dans un souci de polyvalence et de renouvèlement des langages. Symbolisé par le personnage de l’homme-orchestre, sorte d’homme à tout faire sans talent particulier sauf celui de pouvoir tout faire en même temps (un peu), L’ODHO touche à tout, sans pour autant posséder les expertises préalables. Il en résulte des propositions libres, ouvertes, inventives et délibérément chaotiques, qui sont autant de plaidoyers en faveur de la débrouillardise et de l’intelligence. Au fil des ans, le collectif a bricolé une dizaine de création, pour la scène ou pour l’espace public, parmi lesquelles Joue à Tom Waits, Cabaret brise-jour, Tintamarre caravane, Les Palais et 150 cabanes/homes. L’ODHO a présenté ses créations dans une vingtaine de pays d’Amérique, d’Europe et d’Océanie.

BILE AUTOMOBILE? After 15 years of musical and performative exploration, particularly around the idea of “music that is seen,” i.e. the visible transposition on stage of elements belonging to the musical language or the connection of a musician to their instrument, the collective wanted to leave a mark and create on a physical medium. Bile Automobile was conceived as a sort of non-exhaustive encyclopedia of its work concerning the living. It gathers works gleaned from here and there throughout various projects by L’ODHO, songs, instrumental pieces, audio performances and sound poetry.

L’ODHO? L’orchestre d’hommes-orchestres is a collective of undisciplined musicians formed in Quebec City in 2002. Unclassifiable, at the frontier of many artistic disciplines, L’ODHO defines itself as a laboratory of creation and a building site for performing arts. Symbolized by the figure of the one-man-band, the kind of jack of all trades without any specific talent beyond that of being able to do everything all at once (or almost), the approach of the collective is based on transversality, resourcefulness and trial and error. From these ingredients, the collective has cobbled together a dozen works, for the stage and for public spaces, including Joue à Tom Waits, Cabaret brise-jour, Tintamarre caravane, les Palais and 150 cabanes/homes. Over the course of the past few years, L’ODHO has presented its creations in over 80 cities in twenty-odd countries throughout the Americas, Europe and Oceania.

Its unique manner of accentuating the link that unites art and the living saw L’ODHO crowned a “local phenomenon of all genres” by Voir in 2009. The collective has also received The City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protégé Prize in 2013 and The City of Quebec Prize in 2015.
