It must have been a blast (not just a blast from the past) for the designers at Culture Factory USA to work on these new Jefferson Airplane reissues. Not only are these seminal albums of the psychedelic era, but these painstaking reproductions celebrate the band s groundbreaking graphics and feats in elaborately configured packaging. For example, the Bark ('71) cardboard jacket comes in a custom-made re-creation of the brown paper grocery bag (with J.A. logo) that housed the original LP, and the Long John Silver ( 72) paper sleeve features the original photo of cigars and the song lyrics, and its
printed, folded, perforated cardboard sheath can be assembled into a mini-cigar box, just like the original release. You also get the pre-Grace Slick 1966 LP Takes Off; the 1967 masterpiece Surrealistic Pillow featuring the twin smashes Somebody to Love and White Rabbit; their 1967 psychedelic classic After Bathing at Baxter s (a #17 LP) featuring the hits Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil and Watch Her Ride; the Top 10 1968 triumph Crown of Creation featuring the hits Greasy Heart and Crown of Creation; their 1969 smash Volunteers featuring the title hit; 1969 s Bless Its Pointy Little Head (their first live album), and 1973 s Thirty Seconds over Winterland, which documented the band s final concerts of the 70s.
