Reviews
This one is a real gem, and fun to listen to. If you know Gulda, you know that he was about quality and fun throughout his career. And he was about crossing boundaries, about shaking things up. A real pita for the establishment. Maybe this explains why I do like his recordings so much?
This album is not different. If you expect a typical cello concerto, you are in for a wild ride. It's a combination of rock/funk music and avantgarde classical stuff, with the occasional polka thrown in for good measure. Chances are, you can listen to this in the concert hall & and the big tents on the Oktoberfest. I couldn't stop smiling during playback.
The Concerto For Ursula is much more, errr, classical in terms of construction and musical content. Still a very unusual piece of music, though. Enjoy :)
