During the months after Eric Burdon and the remaining members of the original Animals split, the singer cut this album backed by an orchestra and doing songs by Randy Newman, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and other pop-music fixtures; quite a turnaround for the blues purist Burdon, and also very effective as mainstream pop music, including the U.S. hit
"Help Me Girl."
The album was released in the United States only, by MGM Records, during the gap between the time that the original incarnation of The Animals broke up, and the new incarnation, billed as Eric Burdon & The Animals, was created. "Eric Is Here" featured Burdon and drummer Barry Jenkins, accompanied by an orchestra; it is possible that some members of the first incarnation Animals were present during the sessions.
