Edmundo Ros, a Trinidadian musician and a great band leader, unfortunately passed away October 2011 at the age of 100. He had numerous album releases throughout his illustrious career, with his main label being Decca. His music was Latin-American influenced, with great sound in rumba, samba and calypso.TRACKLIST
This box set of Long Play Collection consists of 3 CDs, containing a total of 6 LPs:
Disc 1: Hollywood Cha Cha and Dancing With Ros
Disc 2: Calypso Man and Fire & Frenzy
Disc 3: Rhythms Of The South and Hi Fi-Esta-Perfect For Dancing.
The sound is cleanly remastered. The gems in this collection are Rhythms Of The South and Hollywood Cha Cha. The price is reasonable. If you are interested in Edmundo Ros's music, his catalogue can also be found in the Dutton-Vocalion website.
Edmundo Ros only hit the Billboard Hot 100 twice: Colonel Bogey/Spanish Gypsy Dance (75/1958) and I Talk To The Trees/I Whistle A Happy Tune (77/1959). Colonel Bogey and my personal favourite Spanish Gypsy Dance are found in this box set (Rhythms Of The South).
If you like Edmundo Ros, this reasonably priced collection is a no-brainer. However, if you are interested in Latin music, this is a good introduction to the music of this wonderful musician and his orchestra.
