Nat King Cole's music has been popular throughout the world since he began recording for Capitol Records in the early 40's, but he made some special fans when he toured Latin America and South America during the height of his career. In each of these cuntries he visited, he picked up local songs and Latin musical influences. He recorded in Rio De Janeiro and Mexico City, but he also returned to Los Angeles with the music he discovered and recorded even more songs. Sometimes he sang in Spanish and other times in Portuguese. He might chose a song from Cuba or Puerto Rico and use the vocal inflections of those places. Some tunes he was accompanied by large string or horn sections, but on others he might play with a marimba band or share the vocal spotlight with Brazilian stars like Sylvia Telles, or trio Irakiton. No matter what the song, its origin or the arrangement, they all featured the smooth, warm voice of Nat King Cole sending a special message to his Spanish speaking friends.
