Maestro Bickram Ghosh
One of India's greatest Tabla and percussion maestros, Bickram Ghosh holds the rare distinction of being one of the most well known names in the world of Indo- fusion music. Having performed the world over with the greatest names in Indian classical music, especially Pt. Ravi Shankar (whom he accompanied for over a decade), Bickram went on to form his hugely successful band Rhythmscape which made him one of the most popular musical stars of this generation. Bickram played on four albums that were nominated for Grammies including George Harrison's Brainwashed. He played on "Full Circle" with Pandit Ravi Shankar, which won Shankar a Grammy. Bickram's extremely successful solo albums like Beyond Rhythmscape, Folktail, Drum Invasion. Kingdom of Rhythm, Interface, Electro classical, Transformation etc have consolidated his position as a pioneer of a new fusion sound.
Bickram the composer
Bickram also holds an enviable position as a composer of film music today. Having composed for 21 feature films so far including the Mira Nair presented, Sooni Taraporewala directed Little Zizou. Bickram has now teamed up with Bollywood singing sensation and star Sonu Nigam and together the duo have just begun their journey as co- composers in Bollywood with three films, the first of which - Jal , which recently made headline news with an Oscar contention for the best original score. Jal has also won the award for Best Original Score at the San Francisco Global Fest 2015, USA. Bickram's score for three of this year's top Bengali film hits Ebar Shabor , Kadambari and Har Har Byomkesh have become the talk of the music industry.
Bickram the performer

Bickram Ghosh today is a Global sensation in the world of fusion music and performs in some of the most prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Palais De Beaux Arts to a full house . Rhythmscape, Bickram’s band has performed throughout the length and breadth of India made its UK debut in 2003 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. In 2004 Rhythmscape performed at the Forum at Barcelona where the band shared the stage with Sting, Phil Collins, Norah Jones and Bob Dylan. In 2005 yet another concert at the Rhythmsticks Festival in London the band performed to a sold-out house. The press rightly praised Bickram, “Captivating, colourful and charismatic are the words which popped into my head as I sat enthralled by a performance by one of India’s leading artists. Bickram Ghosh and his band of musicians…Rhythmscape attracted a full house…at Great Bardfield, Essex. Bickram Ghosh has played on four Grammy nominated albums, one of which won the Grammy. He has been awarded the second - highest West Bengal state recognition - Bangabhushan as well as the highest state musical award - Sangeet Mahasanman. He has received the Global Indian Music Academy award twice; one of which was for his recreation of the national song Vande Mataram with 22 of India's greatest musical stars.
Bickram the percussionist
The son of the illustrious tabla maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh and well known vocalist Sanjukta Ghosh , Bickram also learnt the nuances of Carnatic percussion from the great Maestro of mridangam, Pandit S.Sekhar. Maestro Bickram has over 100 albums to his credit and his albums have won several awards. Maestro Bickram Ghosh was the brand ambassador for the Indian Election commission in 2011 in West Bengal and his participation led to a record 8.5 percent increase in urban voting. Apart from having the prestigious distinction of being the main percussionist on Platinum Disc – Chants of India Bickram played on four albums that were nominated for Grammies including George Harrison's Brainwashed. He played on "Full Circle" with Pandit Ravi Shankar which won Shankar a Grammy. Bickram's subsequent super successful solo albums like Beyond Rhythmscape, Folktail, Drum Invasion. The lavish praise that has been showered on the album by critics and top artists alike stands testimony to the birth of a new kind of fusion music, much deeper and soulful than much of the current work in this field.
The Bickram Ghosh academy for performing arts
There are many musical institutions in the country. However for years a generic mode of teaching has resulted in a distinct lack of dynamism in teaching techniques. Furthermore once the students are ready and venture out professionally , there is no guiding hand to help them on in their journey. More so most institutions are located in a single building in one part of the city which makes it immensely difficult for students to travel and learn on a regular basis. Another aspect that is not resolved by musical institutions is that most institutions of repute specialize in limited subjects. This drastically reduces options for students and hence most students are left with no choice but to opt for private lessons given by amateurs.
