Formed in August 1985 by guitarist Fábio Golfetti (born in 1960, São Paulo, SP), bassist Ângelo Pastorello (born in 1959, São Paulo, SP), and drummer Cláudio Souza (born in 1959, São Paulo, SP), the Violeta de Outono were a psychedelic group heavily influenced by Pink Floyd. Getting together after their tentative bands since 1981 – Lux, AMT-1, Ultimato, Zero, and Fragata – they were considered the best Brazilian group in the psychedelic genre. In 1987, the group recorded their first LP, Violeta de Outono, through the independent label Wop-Bop. In the next year, RCA contracted them, yielding a second LP, Em Toda Parte, released in 1989, with the trio transformed into a quartet with the addition of electronic programmer R.H. Jackson (former Nomenclatura). This album fused their Pink Floyd influences with Echo and the Bunnymen and the Cure. The group continued to play sporadically, recording the live CD Vivo (Record Runner) in 1996. In 1989, Fábio Golfetti released a solo single, Ópera Invisível (Wop-Bop), followed by two solo albums: the LP Invisible Opera: Glissando spirit (Low Life, 1993) and the CD Cosmic Dance: From Astral Amazonian Jungles to Remote Himalayan Regions (Nova Sampa, 1997).

Sporadic meetings in a basement in the district of Pinheiros, Sгo Paulo/Brazil, originated the band formed by Fabio Golfetti, Claudio Souza (ex-members of the first formation of the band Zero) and Angelo Pastorello. The sound, a result of the integration of psychedelic/progressive rock and elements of contemporary art such as architecture and visual arts influenced by bands like PINK FLOYD, BEATLES, GONG and many others.

Psychedelic rock band lined-up in 1984 in Sгo Paulo, they started making a reputation in the underground scene in the next year, when they recorded a demo tape with the songs "Outono", "Dia Eterno", "Declнnio de Maio" and "Reflexos da Noite". The tape got heavy rotation on alternative radio stations in Sгo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In 1986, they recorded a three-track EP on Wop Bop Discos and signed up to RCA (currently BMG) in 1987, releasing the debut album "Violeta de Outono". After the package named "The Early Years" (comprised of a cassette tape, a EP and a libretto), the follow-up album, "Em Toda Parte", came about in 1989. In 1991, vocalist and guitarist Fбbio Golfetti left the band to dedicate to the instrumental project Уpera Invisнvel, releasing a solo album, "Glissando Spirit", two years later on the label Low Life. VIOLETA made a comeback in 1994, recording new demo tapes and a new album, but they ended up releasing "Eclipse", with live recordings from 1986. The album with new songs, "Mulher na Montanha", was released in 1999 on the English label Voiceprint, featuring recordings made four years before.

The Early Years collects material recorded in April and May 1988, before Brazilian progressive rock outfit VIOLETA DE OUTONO released its first album. The five tracks on this CD are covers of psychedelic/prog songs. Included are the ROLLING STONES, PINK FLOYD, GONG," George Harrison and a medley of FLOYD and LED ZEPPELIN. Interpretations are also quite average and stay close to the originals. This CD is clearly for the fan or the collector of South American prog/psych music.

Since its inception in 1985, the band has released 7 studio albums, one of them being an absolute classic of Brazilian rock, the self-titled album from 1987 which contained the hits “Outono”, “Dia Eterno” and “Declínio de Maio”, songs that are still played to this day on rock radio stations around the country. The band has also become well-known for their concerts in underground/alternative venues and for having opened shows for foreign bands such as Camel, Focus and Nektar.

This DVD documents a performance by brazilian band Violeta De Outono paying tribute, in an absolutely competent and inspired manner, to the creative genius of Syd Barrett, a true exercise in psychedelia that shows how influential Syd's work still is. This performance was recorded on the last night of the tour (17/07/2006) at the SESI Theatre in Sao Paulo. Coincidentally, a few days before this performance came the news of Syd's passing, wich turned the event into a historical and emotional experience not only for Syd's fans but also for the musicians from the band.
