Vernon Handley, RPO - Bantock Orchestral Music: Box Set 6CDs (2007)

Throughout the history of music, various composers have been unjustly neglected until an enterprising and influential conductor or orchestra take it upon themselves to resurrect the said composer. Mahler was one such composer. Granville Bantock is still waiting for his music to be discovered. His music is lush and mostly written for large orchestra. His music is littered with glorious themes and harmonies and there is almost never a dull moment. This 6 CD set defies criticism. The performances are staggeringly wonderful and the recording is faultless. Bantock loved his brass, horns and percussion and the engineers have managed to capture all of these disparate instruments to utter perfection. If you don't know Bantock's music then this set should both excite and interest you. A very highly recommended CD set.
