While it takes influences from hip hop and Jamaican dancehall, reggaeton is not precisely the Hispanic or Latin American version of either of these genres; reggaeton has its own specific beat and rhythm, whereas Latin hip hop is simply hip hop recorded by artists of Latino descent. The specific "riddim" that characterizes reggaeton is referred to as "Dembow"! Soca has evolved in the last 20 years primarily through musicians from various Anglophone Caribbean countries including Trinidad, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia. The nineties in Dominica have been dominated by a new musical form called bouyon music. Bouyon emerged from the attempt of the new generation bands like Windward Caribbean Kulture (WCK) to develop their own style.
