The Spaghetti Epic: Six Modern Рrog Bands For Six '70 Рrog Suites (2004). Musea and Finnish magazine Colossus have come up trumps with their 'Six Modern Prog Bands For Six '70 Prog Suites' idea. Two and quarter hours of quality music and a booklet that has to be seen to be believed (including a documented story of the film, illustrated story boards and various photographs). The sheer audacity of such a concept has to be applauded and encouraged, particularly as the results are so good!
Take a classic film of the genre, in this case Once Upon A Time In The West, and invite six modern prog bands to write a piece of music based on a character from the film. Not only that, but each piece should be between 20 and 25 minutes long and be heavily influenced by classic 1970s prog. Unsurprisingly there were no shortage of takers to the challenge, after all, progressive rock should be all about taking music in new directions and merging influences from numerous sources. The results are universally impressive, each band rising to the occasion and, given the wide spread of nationalities represented (Finland, Italy, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom), fairly cohesive.

The Spaghetti Epic 2: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (2007). The Finnish progressive rock association, Colossus, have for several years had an ongoing musical project, in which artists are challenged to create epic songs in the same general musical style as classic symphonic prog bands from the early '70s, and where the music also has to incorporate influences from specific movies. The Spaghetti Epic 2 was released early in 2007, and on this recording the artists were challenged to make music inspired by Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti western "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". All the songs on "The Spaghetti Epic 2" are well performed and well made, though the opening track The Good appears to be slightly less expressive than the following ones. Overall however, this is an excellent release, which should appeal to fans of symphonic prog in general and Italian prog lovers in particular.

The Spaghetti Epic 3: The Great Silence (2008). The third volume is based on, and inspired by Sergio Corbucci's "The Great Silence", one of the best and most unusual spaghetti-westerns ever made, set in the beautiful desolation of the snow-covered high plains. The three protagonists here are russian band Little Tragedies, romanian group Yesterdays and italian musicians N.O.T. (Noise Overtones Therapy). As ever, this is vintage Progressive rock at its best!
