VA - Pop Ambient 2018 (2017)

Our "Pop Ambient" compilation series returns to the limelight for 2018, curated by Wolfgang Voigt, who also presents a handpicked selection of genre veterans and newcomers to the current issue. Existing experience with the mission makes itself felt among this year's contributions quickly - thanks to individual artist perspectives, from the organic-rhythmic sample collages The Orbs (to be heard on "Sky's Falling") to Kaito's ethereal trance soundscapes ("Travelled Between Souls") and Mikkel Metal's intimate ambient songwriting ("Shame"). In the 2018 line-up, they meet the new "Pop Ambient" school, represented by Max Würden & Thore Pfeiffer conjures rich drama of textures) or Adjunct boss Kenneth James Gibson (with ascending strings and bubbling percussion on "Disinclined To Vacate" on the way). Following his "Pop Ambient" debut at last year's edition, Yui Onodera leads his exploration of deep, multi-layered string sounds with "Prism" and "Nine Chains To The Moon."
