The Hague String Trio - After the Darkness (2019)

In 2006 three musicians founded The Hague String Trio. Coming from different backgrounds and having studied and worked all over the world, all three have now made The Hague their home and have a strong musical bond with the city. Their love for chamber music and, in particular, the string trio repertoire brought the three ladies together. Not only have the trio dedicated themselves to the interpretation of the famous trios by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, but also to the lesser known compositions of such composers as Melartin, Krása and Klein which they perform with equal dedication and enthusiasm.
Since their coming together, The Hague String Trio have given many memorable performances in both large and small halls in Holland, Germany and England. The trio always strive to share their passion for music and provide an unforgettable concert for their audience.

Justyna Briefjes - violin

Justyna started learning the violin at the age of nine with Sjanneke Laghuwitz. She studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Peter Brunt and Kees Hülsmann, and for two years History of Art at the University of Amsterdam. Justyna took part in masterclasses with Mauricio Fuks, Herman Krebbers and Alexander Kerr. She played as concertmaster and soloist with the Noord-Hollands Youth Orchestra and was principal second violin of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands. She was also a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Justyna participated in the academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam and in March 2004 joined the Residentie Orkest, The Hague as assistant principal second violin. Justyna plays on a violin from the Panormo School (London ca. 1790), made available to her by the Dutch National Music Instrument Foundation.

Julia Dinerstein - viola

Julia Dinerstein began her studies on the violin with Boris Dinerstein and then at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, Moscow with Elizabetha Gilels and Andrei Korsakov. Subsequently she studied the viola at the Maastricht Conservatoire with Mikhail Kugel where she gained her Soloist Masters Degree with distinction. Julia has recorded four CDs both as soloist and chamber musician and has taken part in numerous music festivals in Mexico, Holland, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy where she performed chamber music with, among others, the violinist Dimitri Sitkovetski. Julia is a viola teacher at the Hellendaal Violin Institute, Rotterdam and at the ARTEZ Conservatoire in Arnhem. She is a member of the Trio Sortilège (viola/harp/flute) and The Hague String Trio. She has worked as guest principal viola of the Limburg Symphony Orchestra (Holland), the Flemish Philharmonic (Antwerp, Belgium) and La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra (Brussels, Belgium). Julia won 2nd prize in the Beethoven International Viola Competition in Austria.

Miriam Kirby - cello

Miriam Kirby has lived and worked in England, Germany and the Netherlands. Her first cello lessons were with Sylvia Bor, Caroline Bosanquet and then Joan Dickson at the junior department of the Royal College of Music. Miriam continued her studies privately with William Pleeth and with Melissa Phelps at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she won the chamber music and cello sonata prizes and was awarded a first class degree. Miriam then went to study with Johannes Goritzki at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, where she gained a performing diploma and a first class soloist's masters degree. She has taken part in master classes with Steven Isserlis, Ralph Kirshbaum, Dorothy De Lay, Menahem Pressler and the Tákàcs Quartet. Miriam is a member of the Residentie Orkest, The Hague and plays regularly with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. As chamber musician, Miriam plays in the violin and cello duo, Duo Verve with Sarah Oates and The Hague String Trio. In 2001 she joined the Utrecht String Quartet as guest on its tour of England with the violist Vladimir Mendelssohn. She teaches and performs at the Stamford International Music Festival (UK).
