    Universal's 2012 box rounds up four of Styx's most popular albums – The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Paradise Theater, and the conceptual album Kilroy Was Here – and then adds 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection for good measure. The presence of the compilation is a little baffling, as there is a lot of overlap between this disc and the other four albums ("Babe" is the one big hit here not on the other albums). Also puzzling is that these are straight-up reissues, not remasters, so there is nothing to entice hardcore Styx fans, but anybody looking to get these four big Styx albums plus a bunch of hits once again should be pleased with this. ~ review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

    Paradise Theater is the tenth album by the rock band Styx, released in January 1981 (see 1981 in music). A concept album, the album is a fictional account of Chicago's Paradise Theatre from its opening to closing (and eventual abandonment), used as a metaphor for America's changing times from the late 1970s into the 1980s.     20th Century - Masters Millennium Collection: The Best Of Styx 2002 (A&M, USA, 069490395-2)


    Assembled with the cooperation of the band, Styx's entry in Universal's 20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection series of discount-priced best-of's, surveys the group's tenure at A&M Records, where they scored most of their popular success. Of course, the early hit "Lady," recorded for RCA-distributed Wooden Nickel Records (and thus in the vaults of rival major label BMG), is not included. Neither are the Top Ten hit "Don't Let It End," or the Top 20 hit "Renegade" (mistakenly called a Top Ten hit in the liner notes). But the rest of Styx's big A&M hits – "Too Much Time on My Hands," "Come Sail Away," "Mr. Roboto," "The Best of Times," "Babe," "Show Me the Way" – are on the disc, along with several Top 40 entries and the popular album track "Boat on the River," from 1979's Cornerstone LP. Now, fans reluctant to put out the money for Styx's two volumes of Greatest Hits can have the bulk of their radio hits on one inexpensive album. All Music Guide
