The new SoulParlor album, called Smile, finds future funk meeting sensual soul on a record that is at once deep and danceable. The German duo Frank Jensen and Tobias Müller use the sounds of Electro – rich and harmonic analog synths – as contemporary instruments, and never get lost in nostalgia, despite some obviously funky influences from past decades. They blend these with the warmth of modern soul music, and then drive the grooves with rhythms ranging from R&B and Hip Hop to Broken Beat and hints of House.
